The Salem Spartans defeated the Christiansburg Blue Demons 3-1 on Tuesday behind a stellar pitching performance from Zion Honaker.

Will Stout (Ferrum) was on the mound this afternoon for Blue Demons, facing Honaker, a lanky lefthander for the Spartans. Stout shutdown the Spartans in the first three innings, striking out five Salem batters and allowing one base hit. Salem's Honaker would best Stout's feat, retiring twelve consecutive batters turning this game quickly into a pitchers duel.

The games first run did not cross until the top of fourth inning, where Salem got on the score  connected with his second single of the afternoon and stole second base to start the frame. Matthew Wright reached on an infield single and Joe Quinn's suicide bunt pushed Fetrow home with two-outs.

In the bottom of the frame Blue Demons third baseman, Ryan McFee and Zach Taft walked to get on base and catcher Reagan Harris reached on an error, scoring McFee and the Demons were on the scoreboard.

That was the only run that Christiansburg would get, as Honaker would cruise through the sixth and seventh innings and the Spartans would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh to get the 3-1 victory.

Honaker gave up one run on two hits with four strikeouts while walking four in the complete game effort. Fetrow and Wright led the Spartans both going 3-for-4.

Brad Kirtner and Zalen Akers had the only hits for Christiansburg.
