The Prep Baseball Report IA Top Prospect Games event took place on Sunday, August 5, 2018. The event was held at the Robert W. Plaster Complex in Cedar Rapids, IA; home of Mount Mercy University. The event featured prospects from the 2019 grad class; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and numerous college coaches in attendance. 

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the IA Top Prospect Games.

As we drill down into the statistics: 

+ 31 players ran sub 7.2 60-Yard Dashes
+ 39 players recorded 85+ mph Exit Velocities
+ 14 players recorded 80+ mph Infield Throws
+ 14 players recorded 80+ mph Outfield Throws
+ 12 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 8 catchers recorded sub-2.1 Pop Times
+ 25 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Beck Anshutz, 3B, Des Moines Roosevelt, 2019
6-foot, 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.76 runner. Body load, hovers into hitting slot, shows rhythm in hands, avg. barrel awareness, spray contact, flashes occasional pop in bat, 92 mph exit velocity. Works low to ground, fields out front, avg. flexibility and athleticism, makes routine plays, has accuracy and carry to bag, 80 mph arm across infield.

Tanner Bainbridge, SS, Pekin, 2019
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.3 runner. Pre-set hands, stiffer line drive swing plane, squares baseball consistently, shows pop in bat to gaps, 91 mph exit velocity. Raw fielding mechanics and footwork, should improve with instruction, hands are sure, clean arm action with accuracy to bag, 81 mph arm across infield.

Gavin Baker, SS, Lakeville North (MN), 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. #17 player in current MN 2019 rankings and #2 SS in state. 7.1 runner. Leg kick trigger, uses lower half well in swing, produces solid bat speed, home run and double in game action, has hitting ability, 83 mph exit velocity. Shows actions in field, shows good hands and feet, has shortened arm action, more repeatable with accuracy to bag, 85 mph arm across infield.

Easton Barrus, SS, Belmond-Klemme, 2019
6-foot-2, 215-pound switch hitting shortstop. Recent commit to Grand View University. 7.06 runner. Physical build, has present strength with ability to drive baseball from both sides of plate, some stiffness on left-side, cleaner on right, works gap to gap from both sides, has above avg. pop in bat, 87 mph exit velocity. Raw mechanics in field, solid hands, makes routine plays, needs to continue to develop to stay on left-side of infield, athletic and will hit enough to play first base, 78 mph arm across infield.

Ethan Bernard, SS/RHP, Council Bluffs St. Albert, 2019
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #80 player in current IA 2019 rankings. 6.64 runner. Well above avg. athlete. Progressing to translate tools to game, tall athletic stance, good bat speed, flashes hard pull contact, line drive approach, 89 mph exit velocity. Solid overall actions, avg. glove, makes routine plays, accurate arm and covers ground well in field, 77 mph arm across infield. Works through ball, exaggerated crow hop, fields on side occasionally, accurate arm to target, 84 mph arm from outfield.

Logan Burg, SS, Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2019
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. #35 player in current IA 2019 rankings. 6.64 runner. Taller stance, easy leg kick trigger, clean path, simple swing, spray contact with solid bat speed, uses mid/pull side of field, 90 mph exit velocity. Above avg. footwork with sure hands, shows accuracy and carry across infield, runs well and shows range to both sides, 84 mph arm across infield.

Andrew Cook, 3B/RHP, Williamsburg, 2019
6-foot, 225-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.00 runner. Square stance, choppy body load, present strength, stiff path through contact, shows ability to drive balls to gap, 85 mph exit velocity. Avg. footwork and hands on left-side of infield, stiffer arm action, accurate throws to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.

Colton Gillespie, 3B/RHP, Kirksville (MO), 2019
6-foot, 225-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.34 runner. Taller balanced setup and swing, avg. use of lower half with stiff legs, clean path, extremely strong, avg. barrel awareness, 97 mph exit velocity. Higher fielding position, avg. range, sure hands, accurate to bag on throws, 78 mph arm strength across infield.

Mitchell Halloran, SS/RHP, West Fork, 2019
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.51 runner. Wiggles bat for rhythm, larger leg kick trigger, some stiffness in legs, avg. pull side contact, flashes hard line drives to middle of field, 78 mph exit velocity. Has solid athleticism in field, raw mechanically, shows carry and accuracy to bag, 76 mph arm across infield.

Isaiah Henrichs, LHP/1B, Carlisle, 2019
5-foot-9, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #46 player in current IA 2019 rankings. 7.8 runner. Square stance, narrow base, limited use of front side, uses hands in swing, solid present strength, spray contact, 89 mph exit velocity. Soft glove and is solid receiver around the base, avg. range, handles position well, 77 mph arm across infield.

Cameron Honomichl, SS, Cardinal, 2019
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.6 runner. Square stance, preset weight, stiffer swing, spray contact, uses whole field, 81 mph exit velocity. Avg. hands and feet, choppy arm action, makes routine plays, 68 mph arm across infield.

Cole Kaufman, LHP/1B, Waukee, 2019
6-foot, 190-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. #75 player in current IA 2019 rankings. 7.65 runner. Rolling hand rhythm, body load, looks to elevate, hard pull side contact, line drive and fly ball approach, would benefit from greater extension through contact, solid pop in bat, 83 mph exit velocity. Drew Logel, 3B/RHP, Muscatine, 2019
6-foot-4, 205-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #99 player in current IA 2019 rankings. 7.72 runner. Present strength in large frame, flashes hard contact, limited use of lower half creating stiffness in swing, mid/pull approach with flashes of pop in bat, 91 mph exit velocity. Heavier feet in field, tends to funnel underneath body, avg. hands and feet, 78 mph arm across infield.

Cauy Massner, SS/RHP, Mediapolis, 2019

Chase McDole, RHP/SS, Washington, 2019

Narrow stance, choppy rhythm, mid/away approach, solid line drive contact with avg. pop in bat, 75 mph exit velocity. Cade Moss, SS/C, Johnston, 2019
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting utility player. #70 ranked player in IA 2019 class. 7.03 runner. Open stance, shoulder load, looks to elevate, squares baseball consistently, shows pop in bat to pull side of field, 86 mph exit velocity. August Muenzenmay, SS/2B, Waukee, 2019
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder. #103 player in IA 2019 rankings. 6.92 runner. Open stance, easy load, leans over plate creating inverted bat path, shows solid pop to pull side of field, line drive and fly ball contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Solid footwork and actions, fields out front, covers ground well, avg. arm action with accuracy to bag, 78 mph arm across infield.

Evan Paulus, 3B, Mason City Newman, 2019
5-foot-10, 230-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. #20 player in current IA 2019 rankings. 7.7 runner. Square stance, back elbow hitch to load, high rate of barrel contact, shows above avg. power to mid/pull side of field, able to repeat in games, 92 mph exit velocity.
