The Prep Baseball Report IA Underclass Prospect Games event took place on Monday, August 30, 2018. The event was held at Duane Banks Field on the campus of the U. of Iowa. The event featured prospects from the 2020 & 2021 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and numerous college coaches in attendance. 

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the IA Underclass Prospect Games.

As we drill down into the statistics: 

+ 20 players ran sub-4.5 Home-To-First times.
+ 36 players recorded 85+ mph Exit Velocities
+ 15 players recorded 80+ mph Infield Throws
+ 17 players recorded 80+ mph Outfield Throws
+ 7 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 5 catchers recorded sub-2.1 Pop Times
+  28 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Luke Anderson, LHP/OF, Central Dewitt, 2020
6-foot-3, 185-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Projectable frame with present lean strength. 4.66 H-1B time. Square stance with balanced short stride, arm bar load, repeats swing well, has pop in bat, works gap well, 84 mph exit velocity. Solid athlete in field, confident routes and angles, lower arm slot, easy effort, has carry and accuracy to target, 82 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jake Benson, RHP/OF, Southeast Polk, 2020
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 4.71 H-1B time. Active load and stride, lots of moving parts, line drive swing, inconsistent contact, flashes hard line drives to middle of field, 86 mph exit velocity. Plays fast in field, works through ball, raw crow hop mechanics, clean arm action, solid carry and accuracy to target, 82 mph arm strength from outfield.

Cael Boyd, OF, Ankeny, 2021
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Athletic frame with lean strength. 4.31 H-1B time. Body load, double tap trigger, early rhythm in hands, shows power in bat with present strength, uses whole field, consistent hard contact, 84 mph exit velocity. Quick twitch action in field, works through ball, solid carry and accuracy, covers ground well in field, 85 mph arm strength from outfield. Strong follow in IA 2021 class.

Brody Brecht, OF/RHP, Ankeny, 2021
6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed 2-way player. Long lean athletic frame with wiry strength. One of top follows in Iowa 2021 class. 4.7 H-1B time. Open stance, body load, consistent line drive contact, even while lacking extension through contact- shows above avg. pop in bat, 89 mph exit velocity. Athletic in field, quicker release, avg. momentum through ball, online throws with carry and accuracy, 90 mph arm strength from outfield. Mechanics lack polish but projects through the roof. As he continues to mature and develop; Brecht has a chance to be one of the better players in the state.

Ben Bryant, OF, Western Dubuque, 2020
5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 4.5 H-1B time.
