TEXAS- With the 2022 Overall Ranking being updated, it's time to take a deeper dive with a look at prospects ranked at the top of their position. Today we take a look at a strong class of Texas shortstops.

Anthony Silva SS / 3B / Clark, TX / 2022

TCU Recruit. Silva is the youngster on the Team Texas roster, but he showed out as one of the big guns to keep a very close eye on. A plus-plus defender, Silva showed quick reactions, speed into approach, exceptionally clean glovework, and put up 88 mph across the diamond. The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder has a very high ceiling at the plate, showed line drive power around the field from a simple set up on the right side and projects to develop more power. 91 mph exit velocity.

Conner Weigman SS / OF / Bridgeland, TX / 2022

Uncommitted. No. 9 ranked SS in the 2022 class. Weigman’s intent to win and compete stood out from the first inning of the week, and combined with his physical frame and athleticism, he is definitely a player to know moving forward. At 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, Weigman is one of the more physically-gifted players in the class. Also a gifted quarterback, he showed well as a defender, spending the majority of his time at third base throughout the weekend, showcasing carry on throws across the diamond. The right-handed hitter has a simple setup and direct approach to the ball with fast hands. He has some current gap-to-gap power that could continue to develop as he gets more at-bats in the future. His speed makes him a threat on the base paths, and his ability to swipe a bag stood out.

Jett Williams SS / RHP / Rockwall-Heath, TX / 2022

Texas A&M Recruit. Showed off his pure athleticism running the 60 yard dash aggressively at 6.87. At the plate, he has an even stance, keeping his hands close to his ear until he loads with a small leg lift. He posted an 89 mph exit velocity. From the infield, he is comfortable and mechanically sound as he exhibits good footwork taking him through the ball and leveraging his body well through the throw, posting an infield velocity of 90 mph using a clean loose transfer and whippy arm. From the mound, he is able to use every inch of his 5 foot 8, 155 pound frame efficiently to get down the mound. He showed a slow moving, methodical delivery featuring a high ¾ arm slot and fastball topping out at 90 mph. He also flashed a true 12/6 curveball with good depth at 76-77, and a changeup with good sink at 78-81

Travis Sanders SS / 2B / Copperas Cove, TX / 2022

Texas Tech Recuit. No. 21 ranked SS in the 2022 class. Sanders fluid actions and quick hands stand out at a young age, and he showcases an impressive amount of all-around ability. The 5-foot-11, 155-pounder is still maturing physically, but he ran a 7.13 60-yard dash at a preseason PBR Texas event, and demonstrated the athleticism necessary to stick at shortstop moving forward. Ranging effortlessly side to side with a bounce to his step, the wiry infielder comfortably fields ground balls with twitchy hands before exhibiting the ability to whip the ball across the diamond from all angles with a quick release. At the plate, the right-handed hitter is advanced in his approach, and his fluid load stands out for the connection that the upper and lower-half share. The hands flow down and back with a slight leg hang leading to the barrel quickly working flat through the zone. His barrel lags in the zone as he remains balanced throughout an aggressive approach, and his lean frame should continue adding strength which will likely provide for significant power gains in the future. Overall, Sanders has the makings of an impact shortstop, and it will be fun to track his progress.

Jose Vargas SS / OF / Clear Springs, TX / 2022

Houtson Recuit. Is gonna be really fun to watch over the next couple of years. The left-handed hitter posted an exit velocity of 87 mph off the tee. He ran a 6.77 and with his 6-foot-2, 170-pound, wiry-athletic frame, he has quality footwork and quick-twitch actions on the infield.
