Prep Baseball Report

Inside the Recruitment: '15 RHP Alex Harter commits to Findlay

PBR: Why did you choose Findlay?

Harter: I chose Findlay because the coaches and I became very close from the very first time we met. I felt comfortable with coaches, the players and I got along quite well, and I like where the program is going in the future. Overall I am excited with the choice I have made.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Harter: Hillsdale and Wittenberg

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?

Harter: Since they are so close, Coach Mak was able to come out to a few of my high school games. They then saw me at the end of the summer when I pitched at Xavier, and then asked me to come on a visit after that.

PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Harter: They expect me to come in as a freshmen and compete for some pitching role. They want me to contribute early but I need to work hard to show that I am capable to do that.

PBR:  Findlay is very close to home.  How important of a role was distance in your decision?

Harter: Distance never really was a factor to me. Being close to home family is very convenient for them to come and watch me, but I weighed out my options.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Harter: Definitely my dad. Starting from when I first started playing at 4 and throughout my whole life he has been there to make me the person I am today. I would not be where I am today without him and all that he has sacrificed for me. I could never thank him enough for all that he does.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Harter: I played for Ohio Elite 17u Noe. The whole summer was great, and the best experience was all the new guys I was able to meet. This team was a lot of fun and I will never forget it.

PBR: What were your stats last season?

Harter: I was 7-1 with a 2.56 ERA and 83 k's

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced in Ohio?

Harter: In high school the toughest hitter is my good friend Ross Adolph. Every at bat is a fun one and he can hit the ball everywhere. There is no exact way to pitch him and that makes it fun for the both of us.
