Since 2014 we have been providing the most comprehensive in-state information, promoting high school baseball and ultimately have been helping prep athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. Massachusetts Director of Scouting Dennis Healy and Connecticut Director of Scouting Trevor Brown have been an integral part of this, along with the help from many other scouts, writers and interns.

Through these years we have been covering six states, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Today we would like to introduce the Director of Scouting for Vermont, Chris Richard.

Chris Richard

Chris is a native of Burlington, Vt., where he attended Burlington High school and graduated in 1998. While at BHS, Chris was a two-sport athlete (Hockey & Baseball) and on varsity for all four years in each sport. He was a 2-year captain for both hockey and baseball. On the field, Chris was selected as a High School All-American by USA Today and selected by the Montreal Expos in the 1998 MLB Draft. Still to this day, Chris holds many of the Vermont HS baseball records.

After high school, Chris continued his career at Norwalk Community College (NJCAA) where he led the NJCAA in hitting as a freshman (.562 AVG, 25 HR, 92 RBIs). While at NCC, Chris also helped the program make back-to-back World Series appearances. Chris was once again drafted by Montreal but an injury kept him from signing with the Expos so he got into the teaching side of the game as a private instructor and assistant coach for his alma matter, Burlington High School, from 2001-2005.

In 2001, Chris started Vermont’s first 15U premier travel program (Vermont Storm) and in 2004 Chris went to the American Legion route taking an assistant coaching spot for Essex Post 91. In 2005, he took over the program and head coaching duties and continues to run the program as the general manager. In 2010, Chris was hired as the head varsity coach at Essex High School where he has a record of 107-52. Chris has also helped many of his players continue at the collegiate level (5 D1 players since 2010, all coming from Vermont). In the off-season, Chris is in his 19th year of working as a private baseball instructor.

Since 2004, Chris has worked as a licensed property & casualty insurance agent and was named Vice President of Personal Lines for Cheeseman Insurance Group in 2016. He now resides in Colchester Vt., with his wife Melissa and three daughters (Ariana 8, Estella 6 & Adelina 3)

Now Chris will bring his baseball experiences and connections to Vermont's prep baseball scene, working tirelessly to bring you the most comprehensive high school baseball information Vermont has ever seen and provide coverage to all corners of the state. But he can’t do it alone. Please email him at [email protected] with college commitments, relevant news, and top players in your area.

Vermont's events are already set up at top-flight venues across the state. Prep Baseball Report events are designed to give players the maximum exposure needed to advance to the next level.
