Prep Baseball Report

Introducing PBR Nevada

Sean Duncan
President

With great pleasure, we bring to you Prep Baseball Report Nevada. Our mission in Nevada mirrors that of our other state-specific coverage: to provide the most comprehensive in-state scouting information, to promote high school baseball and, ultimately help Nevada prep athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. Our goal is to be the year-round No. 1 scouting resource for prep baseball in Nevada.

Although it will take some time to achieve the status of our other 39 states, we are certain we have the right person to thoroughly, accurately and honestly scout Nevada:

Buddy Gouldsmith.

Gouldsmith brings a wealth of high-level experience to our staff, having spent more than 26 years in the game as a coach and professional scout.  While he has coached at all levels, Gouldsmith has spent 15 years in Nevada coaching at the two major universities, including nine at UNLV, seven of which he served as the head coach. Prior to his tenure at UNLV, he spent three years as an assistant at the University of Nevada. Gouldsmith’s intimate knowledge and connections in Nevada can be matched by few.

Prior to joining the Prep Baseball Report as the Nevada Scouting Director, Gouldsmith spent three seasons at the University of New Mexico as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator.  Over this three-year span, he mentored seven draft picks. The Lobos won both conference and tournament championships during his tenure, as well as participating in the NCAA Regionals in 2016.

Gouldsmith also spent two years as an area supervisor for the Kansas City Royals. As a scout, he was responsible for Northern California and Northern Nevada. He was a member of the organization during their American League and World Championship runs in 2015 and 2016.  Prior to that, he spent three years as an assistant at the University of Nevada and nine years at UNLV, seven as the head coach. In all, Gouldsmith has spent 14 of his previous 18 years in the state of Nevada.

At Nevada, he helped guide them to the 2012 WAC championship. He mentored two big-leaguers and five MLB draft selections.

As head coach at UNLV, Gouldsmith guided the Rebels to a pair of Mountain West Tournament titles in 2004 and 2005, and in the process earned MWC Coach of the Year honors. As an assistant in 2003, he helped lead UNLV to a 47-17 record, both the Mountain West Tournament and regular-season championships as well as the NCAA postseason. During his tenure, he saw 23 players selected in the MLB Draft, including 2 major-leaguers.

Before his time at UNLV, Gouldsmith spent four seasons as third base coach and hitting coach at Tulane University.  He helped coach the Green Wave to four straight NCAA postseason berths, including the program’s first-ever trip to the College World Series in 2001. In addition, he coached nine All-Americans and 14 draft picks, including three big leaguers.

Prior to his time at Tulane, he was an assistant coach at American River and Cosumnes River Colleges in Sacramento, CA, from 1992 to 1997. As a junior college coach, Gouldsmith saw 10 MLB draft selections and three big leaguers. He also spent four years as an associate scout in the San Francisco Giants organization and two years as a high school coach.

He received his bachelor's in business administration from Sacramento State University in 1992, and his master's in sport management from the United States Sports Academy in 1996.

Now Gouldsmith will bring his vast baseball experiences and passions for scouting to Nevada’s  prep baseball scene. Gouldsmith will work tirelessly to bring to you the most comprehensive high school baseball information Nevada has ever seen and provide scouting coverage to all corners of the state. But he can’t do it alone. Please email him at [email protected] with college commitments, relevant news, and top players in your area.

Nevada-specific events will begin this fall. Prep Baseball Report events are designed to give players the maximum exposure needed to advance to the next level. Not only will players receive high-level exposure to college coaches, but all players at events will be videotaped, and the edited performance will be hosted online. All players’ profiles, verified statistics and scouting reports can be searched in our expansive player database.
