Ryan Portes led the James River Rapids to a 9-1 victory over previously unbeaten No. 4 Cosby.

Portes and JMU commit Andrew Weight would square off in this battle of Dominion District and 6B regional foes. Both pitchers would exchange zero's for the first two innings and in the top of the third Cosby would strike first after pitcher Andrew Weight led off with a double to deep right and would later score on a Cade Swisher sacrifice fly making it 1-0 Titans. In the bottom half James River would answer with two of their own by way of a Alex Balisteri double. That made it 1-1 and one batter later junior Will Riley would score Balisteri on a sacrifice fly to center, making it 2-1 Rapids.

After the Rapids gave Portes the lead he never looked back, facing only three over the minimum the next four innings of work. Portes would continue to get run support from the James River hitters, as they would put up a crooked number the next three innings.

In the 4th the Rapids would score two, making it 4-1, on a couple of throwing errors by the Titans. In the bottom of the 5th James River would break it open with the help of Alex Reinhardt, who hit a double off the fence in deep left center, putting runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. Ty Swaim and Balisteri would hit back to back infield singles that would allow the Rapids to run this one to 7-1.

Riley would cap this one off with a monster shot out of left center to lead off the 6th and the Rapids would add another on a Peyton Jones double to left center making it 9-1 in favor of James River.

Portes would finish this one off in the 7th with a groundball to the third baseman making this one final by the score of 9-1 Rapids.

Portes threw seven innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out nine along the way. The Rapids offense put up a staggering twelve hits versus a solid staff in Cosby. Ty Swaim was 2-3 with three runs scored. Alex Balisteri was 3-4 with a double and three RBI. Will Riley was 1-1 with a HR and two RBI. Alex Reinhardt was 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Will Jordan was 2-4 with a double.
