GAME ONE

Jefferson, 3A’s Region 8 champs and last year’s 4A winners, was the top ranked team in the tournament but came out of the gate slow in their first-round series with Westminster and it cost them.

Both the Dragons and Wildcats sent their aces to the mound: Jefferson’s Lane Watkins (Georgia commit) and Westminster’s Luke Janetta (Tulane). The D-I showdown on the mound made for a quiet first five frames, but Westminster opened things up in the sixth. The Wildcats poured seven out-of-nowhere runs on the Dragons in an inning that featured clutch RBIs produced by Drew Berg, Nick O'Reilly, Jannetta, Parks Harber, and Ben Forte.

Westminster comfortably closed it out from there, limiting Jefferson to just one run. Jannetta earned the win and allowed just four hits in five innings of work, striking out six.

Jannetta earned the win for Westminster Wildcats Varsity. He allowed four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six. Jonathan Morgan held it down for the final two innings in relief out of the bullpen to lock down the 7-1 upset victory.

GAME TWO

Facing elimination, Jefferson’s bats awoke from the game one slump and got off to quick start, courtesy of Watkins, who slugged a mammoth home run to put the Dragons up front – for good.

Jefferson didn’t stop at Watkins’ bomb. They were aggressive at the plate and on the bases, scoring seven more runs on 13 hits in the game. Zac Corbin, Ryan Godfrey, and Watkins each had multiple hits for the Dragons.

Brycen Jewell was on point from the mound as well. He tossed a shutout, allowing no runs on four hits, striking out eight and walking just one, helping Jefferson seal the game two win, 8-0.

William Lybrook took the loss for Westminster Wildcats Varsity. Surrendering five runs on 10 hits over five innings, striking out four and walking one.

These two teams are set to play a decisive game three today at 5 p.m. at Jefferson.
