No. 3 Ketcham 2 - Fox Lane 0

In a rematch of last season’s Section 1 Class AA final, defending champ Ketcham defeated visiting Fox Lane on Thursday, 2-0. After cruising through the middle innings, All-State senior Tim Zehnbauer escaped a no-out, bases-loaded jam to close out the win in the seventh. Fox Lane freshman Henry Davis led off with a bloop single, followed by two infield hits from Joe Fraioli and Andrew Workman. But Zehnbauer struck out Chris Stern on a 2-2 curveball to conclude an eight-pitch at-bat and then induced a game-ending 5-5-3 double play from Will Wortmann.

Zehnbauer only allowed three hits and no walks through the first six innings, striking out the side in the third and the fifth. The right-handed ace finished with 10 strikeouts and threw 66 of his 88 pitches for strikes. Fox Lane countered with junior right-hander Aaron Winkler, who struggled with command early but kept it close through six innings of work. He allowed one earned run on four hits, three walks and one hit batsman with two strikeouts on 86 pitches (56 strikes).

Ketcham (2-0) got runners into scoring position in each of the first five innings, but only scored in the second. Robert Clerc and Matt Lynch each walked, with Clerc scoring on Stephen Merrill’s RBI single. After an error loaded the bases, Justin Squarzini hit a sac fly to score Lynch on a close play at home, which gave the Indians their two runs.

Davis and Workman each had two hits for the Foxes (1-1), while Squarzini, Zehnbauer and Jonnathan Cepeda added hits for Ketcham.
