Looking Ahead to January in Alabama

PBR Alabama Staff

Looking Ahead to January in the State:

Once the calendar flips to January, it can only mean one thing……..high school baseball season is right around the corner. Players and teams will continue to get ready for the upcoming 2019 season as they head back to school from the winter break. High school baseball teams in Alabama have a three week throwing period that begins on January 7 where teams can only throw. This throwing period was instilled mainly for pitchers to allow them to get their arms and bodies in shape before games begin. Because of this throwing period, pitchers now have six weeks to prepare before games begin. Kudos to the AHSAA for allowing this as safety is, and should be the main focus for all players, especially pitchers. During this throwing period, coaches are allowed to continue their 5-1 player training up until practice starts. This allows for specific training with positional emphasis and allows coaches to do a lot of fundamental work before full scale practice begins on January 28 where teams are given three weeks to prepare for their season with first games being played on February 18.

During the month of January we will be hosting the invite only Preseason All State Event at the Top Gun Facility in Leeds. If you are interested in attending and have not requested an invite, do so soon before it’s too late at the following link: https://www.prepbaseballreport.com/event/AL/preseason-all-state-1-20-19 . Towards the end of January and leading up to the first games in February we will also be releasing individual team previews and our Preseason Top 10 teams in each classification.

As usual, this looks to be a banner season in Alabama for high school baseball with some high level teams and numerous top shelf prospects in the different graduation classes. Let’s hope for good weather as practice and the season approach. Prep Baseball Report Alabama will be out and about throughout the state to bring you unprecedented coverage of high school teams and players.
