Prep Baseball Report's MN Fall Review took place on Sunday, October 23, 2016. The event was held at the Vadnais Sports Center in Vadnais Heights, MN. The event featured prospects from Minnesota, Wisconsin & North Dakota from the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple colleges in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, and my staff for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Fall Review; we have broken down the individual statistics below.

As we drill down into the statistics:

+ 17 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+ 14 players recorded 84+ mph exit velocities
+ 10 players recorded 78+ mph infield throws
+ 8 players recorded 78+ mph outfield throws
+ 6 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 22 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Below we have highlighted the prospects at their respective positions with evaluations; listed alphabetically.

Taylor Brodersen, C/RHP, Heritage Christian Academy, 2019
5-foot-10, 195-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.75 runner. Easy load and stride, falls over plate occasionally in swing, shows hard contact to middle of field, solid extension through contact and stays on baseball, slight uphill bat path through contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Solid glove with ability to receive, good base and presents well to pitcher, drifts to ball occasionally, needs to improve flexibility behind plate. Has direction with feet and momentum on throws, some length to exchange, quicker release, avg. accuracy and carry to bag. 70 mph arm strength with 2.09-2.21 pop times.

Evan Brown, C, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, 2019
5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.81 runner. Active load and stride, off-time in swing, stays on baseball at contact, hard ground ball contact, works middle of field, 80 mph exit velocity. Side-saddle behind plate, works through batter’s box, length to release, arm works well, avg. accuracy and carry to bag, 68 mph arm strength with 2.22-2.46 pop times.

Nolan Conzemius, C/RHP, Cretin-Derham Hall, 2019
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting, 2-way player. 7.52 runner. Pre-set hands, balanced stride with front heel turn trigger, consistent line drive contact with gap to gap approach, 84 mph exit velocity. Smooth actions and moves well behind plate, sticks pitches in zone, above avg. ability to work across body. Flexible behind plate, has direction with feet, length to exchange, longer arm action, throws show solid carry and avg. accuracy to bag, 69 mph arm strength behind plate with 2.13-2.27 pop times.

Eddie Halvorson, C, St. Louis Park, 2017
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 8.01 runner. Slightly open stance, flat bat plane, out front at contact, stiffer actions in swing, ground ball contact to pull side of field, 76 mph exit velocity. Works around plate with feet, occasional trouble with exchanges, lacks accuracy to bag, tall stance behind plate, glove tends to float with off-speed, avg. receiver, 64 mph arm strength with 2.32-2.47 pop times.

Jackson Keller, C, Mankato East, 2019
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.99 runner. Strong setup, balanced stride, has rhythm in load, slight uphill plane, leans back at contact, mid/pull approach with consistent solid contact, 78 mph exit velocity. Clean exchanges with quick release, needs to improve direction with feet which will help with accuracy, slight hitch in arm action, 66 mph arm strength with 2.13-2.22 pop times. Avg. blocker and receiver, has flexibility and moves well behind plate, should continue to improve with reps.

Jakob Kouneski, C/RHP, Minneapolis Southwest, 2019
6-foot-1, 202-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.82 runner. Easy load and stride, shows rhythm in swing, slight hitch in trigger, transfers weight well through swing, works mostly mid/away, line drive contact with flashes of pop in bat, 80 mph exit velocity. Good direction and momentum on throws, stays low and works through plate, clean exchanges with quick release, throws have accuracy and carry to bag, shows flexibility and moves well with size, good hands, above avg. high school receiver, 1.9-1.97 pop times with 72 mph arm strength.

Danny Leahy, C, AFSA, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.41 runner. Wider stance, stiff legs in swing, uphill path to contact, short finish through contact, line drive and fly ball contact, 71 mph exit velocity. Works around plate with feet, long exchange and arm action, avg. accuracy and carry to bag, solid blocker, late reactions receiving, 64 mph arm strength with 2.25-2.44 pop times.

Bryce Lovcik, C/RHP, Maranatha Christian Academy, 2019
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.08 runner. Balanced stance, body load, linear hitter with good weight transfer, short to contact, consistent hard line drive contact working gap to gap, 84 mph exit velocity. Above avg. carry to bag with accurate throws, will only improve with better direction with feet and staying low on throws, athletic receiver behind plate, sticks pitches, moves well, shows ability to block, and has soft hands. 72 mph arm strength with 2.02-2.14 pop times.

Mason Nadolney, SS/RHP, Minnetonka, 2018
6-foot-4, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #10 ranked player in MN 2018 class. 7.18 runner. Body load, stays inside baseball well, drives hands through contact with strength, mid/pull approach, flashes of power in bat, 89 mph exit velocity. Large durable frame, moves well and is athletic behind plate, hand strength, sticks pitches in zone, length to exchange and release, has direction with feet and stays low on throws with momentum, avg. accuracy to bag, cut action on throws, 75 mph arm strength with 2.1-2.3 pop times.

Eric Rinzel, C, Holy Family, 2019
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.22 runner. Square stance, leg kick trigger, some length to contact, well above avg. strength in swing, clean path through contact, mid/pull approach with pop in bat, 95 mph exit velocity. Works around plate, clean exchanges, good arm action, above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, athletic and flexible for size, light on his feet with soft hands, above avg. receiver, 74 mph arm strength with 1.9-2.08 pop times. High Follow in 2019 class.

Riley Swenson, C, Chaska, 2018
6-foot-3, 180-pound switch hitting catcher. 7.2 runner. From left-side- simple load, slight stiffness in legs, short to contact, ground ball contact to pull-side of field. Right side- more aggressive swings, better weight transfer, line drive approach to middle of field, consistent hard contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Moves well behind plate, shows ability with glove, sticks low pitch well, flexible frame, slight hitch in arm action, well above avg. carry to bag with accurate throws, 2.03-2.13 pop times with 79 mph arm strength.

Evan Zamec, C/RHP, Orono, 2020
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.96 runner. Simple hand movement, body load, transfers weight, barrel stays through zone, clean path, has extension through contact, stays inside ball at contact producing hard line drive and pull contact, 87 mph exit velocity. Flexible behind plate, solid receiver, soft glove, late to block occasionally. Inconsistent footwork, out and over lower half on throws, accurate to bag, 68 mph arm strength with 2.4-2.46 pop times. Follow bat in 2020 class.
