MO Rankings Update: Class of 2022

Andy Urban
OK/MO/KS Executive Scouting Director

The 2022 rankings received a major overhaul last November. During the winter showcase season, we were able to get our eyes on numerous young and talented prospects and have now updated the 2022  Missouri Rankings. We expanded this list from 100 to 125 players with more than 50 new prospects. Seven of those new prospects make their debut in the rankings in the top 25. The newcomers and risers on this list come from the looks we got at the four Missouri winter events including the very talented MOKAN Preseason All-State Showcase.

With four players in Overall Rankings, the top of this group, though talented, has been slower to develop than other recent MO classes we have seen. There is plenty of projection in this group though and we could see more players jump into the overalls in the near future.  Below, the PBR Missouri staff takes an in-depth look at top 3 prospects, each of which are in the overall top 500, as well as the top newcomers, risers, and a glance at the top 10.

Top 3

Jack Mosh (St. Pius X) stays in the No. 1 spot in Missouri as he continues to prove that he is one of the best pure hitters out of the midwest in the 2022 class. Mosh has a proportional 5-foot-10, 165-pound proportional frame with sneaky strength. The left-handed hitter is consistently on time even against higher end velo with an all-fields and line drive approach. Defensively, Mosh likely profiles best as a sure handed 3B. Mosh shows the athleticism to jump on the mound and fill up the zone in the low 80s as well.

Another left-handed hitter that has shown consistent production is OF
Jackson Kline (Park Hill). Kline, like Mosh, has an advanced approach at the plate with the ability to consistently  find barrels with sneaky pop. Defensively, Kline shows clean and confident actions with an accurate arm and above average speed. Kline jumps to the No. 2 spot overall after a strong all around showing this summer in front of our state and national PBR staff.

At No. 3 in the new Missouri rankings is SS Jake McCutcheon (Francis Howell). Though strong all around, McCutcheon’s numbers may not jump off of the page, rather it is his polished skill set and projectable frame that make him a top prospect. Yet another left-handed hitter at the top of the list, McCutcheon has made a nice  jump offensively and was poised to make a big impact for the perennial powerhouse Vikings this year. Defensively, the SS shows clean footwork that consistently get McCutcheon into good fielding positions to go along with sure hands. He also features a strong (86 mph) and accurate arm across the diamond.

Top Newcomers

Tanner Duncan, 3B, Kennett HS
The physical infielder jumps into the rankings in the top 5 after showing off some elite strength at the Arkansas Preseason I.D. The  6-foot-2, 205-pound left-handed hitter posted an eye popping 100 mph exit velo off the tee and crushed a few balls in BP as well with consistent and big lift. On the mound, the right-hander sat 83-86 from an over the top slot.  Duncan could rise up the state and overall rankings as he continues to pollish up his game.

Aidan Haynes, RHP, Metro

Another long, loose, and projectable right-hander, Haynes stands at 6-foot-4 150-pounds. Haynes pitches only out of the stretch with a high leg kick. He uses a moderate and very clean arm circle in the back before bringing it through an over the top slot from behind his head with deception. His fastball ranges 80-84 mph with a downhill plane with mostly strikes. Haynes also mixes in an over the top curveball with some late depth at 70-72 and a changeup at 70-71 mph.

Aaron Lewis, RHP Liberty North HS

A very lean and projectable 6-foot-2, 160-pound with a ton of projection left. The right-hander uses a simple and easy delivery. His arm action is long in the back coming through a high-¾ slot with loosenes. Lewis absolutely filled up the zone at the Preseason All-State Showcase with a sneaky fastball sitting 81-83 and touching 84 mph. Lewis also mixed in a changeup and breaking ball for strikes as well.

Top Risers

Daniel Flier, OF/RHP, CBC
The left-handed hitting outfielder jumps nearly 50 spots into the top 10 in this edition of the rankings. Still a lean 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame, Filer has added some wiry strength that helped him put on an impressive display in BP at the St. Louis Winter Opening. Filer shows an all-fields fields and line drive approach with an efficient swing and sneaky pop (88 mph exit velo). On the mound, the right-hander works from a deliberate drop and drive delivery with a clean arm path. Filer filled up the zone flashing arm-side run at 80-83 mph and touched 84.

Jack Shroeder, 3B, CBC
Another big riser from CBC, Shroeder is up 30 spots after a strong showing at the St. Louis Winter Open. The right-handed hitter barreled up almost every ball in BP to the middle of the field on a line with some juice. Shroeder is also an above average runner in the 60 at 6.93. The 3B could continue to see his stock rise as he poshish his hands and feet on the infield where his quickness already plays up.

Jackson Truman, 2B, Lees Summit West

A standout at the Mac & Seitz Scout Day standout, Truman rises up over 20 spots in this ranking. Currently 6-foot, 170-pounds, Truman looks  The right-handed hitter shows a compact and efficient swing that consistently barreled balls to the back of the cage in BP.  Defensively, Truman shows advanced feet and hands and a quick release with some arm strength. The right-hander also jumps on the mound and sits 77-80 mph.
