By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

On Tuesday, June 7, the PBR Missouri staff will travel to Atkins Field in Columbia, MO, to host the Top Prospect Games: Underclass event. Formerly touted as the MO Underclass Games, this invite-only event will feature more than 60 names representing the 2024-to-2026 grad classes across the entire ‘Show Me’ state. Those in attendance will participate in a pro-style workout to begin the event, followed by live game action.

EVENT HISTORY

This event first started in 2020 with a group that consisted of more than 70 players, 33 of which eventually committed to play college baseball. That roster featured several Division I prospects including LHP Daniel Wissler (Fort Zumwalt West, 2022; Missouri), MIF Jack Mosh (St. Pius X, 2022; Missouri), CIF Jack Holubowski (Marquette, 2023; Missouri), RHP Will Moore (Ladue Horton Watkins, 2023; Purdue), and C Cole Chace (Blue Springs South, 2023; Indiana State), amongst others.

Last year’s roster was equally as impressive, with several high-end prospects in the state’s 2023 and 2024 classes in attendance. Several members of Team Missouri at last year’s PBR Future Games earned their way onto the roster because of this event, such as LHP Wil Libbert (Blair Oaks, 2023; Missouri), RHP Seth Benes (Liberty-Wentzville, 2023), OF Kaden Peer (Christian Brothers College, 2023; Missouri), and OF Caden Bogenpohl (Jackson, 2023; Missouri State).

2022 ROSTER PREVIEW

This year’s group is already shaping up nicely, with an abundance of high-end talent making their way to Columbia on Tuesday. We’re eager to get an up-to-date look at these athletes after the MSHSAA season and also meet a handful of fresh faces set to make their PBR event debut.

There are several talented, uncommitted sophomores on this roster that’re set to begin what’ll ultimately be an integral recruiting summer for them in a few weeks, starting with this event. RHP Tyler Holman (Liberty, 2024) is a highly projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound prospect with a loose, easy arm that topped at 84 mph this winter, pitching in the low-80s. Another arm to note is LHP Carter Cox (Fort Zumwalt South, 2024), as the 6-foot-1, 190-pound well-proportioned southpaw sat in the mid-80s, touching 86 mph this winter at the Midland Scout Day. MIF Charlie Isom-McCall (St. Louis University, 2024) impressed at the Gamers Scout Day in February, flashing plenty of projection attached to a lean 6-foot, 160-pound frame. Isom-McCall showed a loose, fluid right-handed stroke in the box and active actions on the infield, ramping his hardest bullet across the diamond at 84 mph. 3B Eric Williams (Fort Zumwalt East, 2024) headlines a Fort Zumwalt East offense that’s playing in the state finals right now as a physical right-handed hitter with middle-of-the-order upside.

We’ll see two of the state’s top 2025 prospects in Columbia on Tuesday, both of which are committed and currently slot inside the state’s top-10 for the class: INF Trey Jozwiakowski (Vianney; Missouri) and INF Ryker Benz (Vianney; Oklahoma).

There’s still plenty of talented names on this roster as we work our way through it, starting on the mound. 1B/LHP Mason Lee (Pattonville, 2025) is a top-15 prospect in Missouri’s freshman class with a wiry 6-foot-2, 160-pound frame and plenty of upside that follows. He showed a smooth, low-effort operation at the Rawlings Tigers Scout Day this winter, touching 82 mph with some feel for two secondaries. Another high-end follow is INF/RHP Jordan Martin (Jefferson City, 2025), who strung together a quality start in front of our scouts during the postseason and boasts a highly projectable 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame to pair. LHP Andrew Anderson (Vianney, 2025) holds plenty of upside attached to a strong, well-proportioned 6-foot-3, 197-pound frame, bumping his fastball up to 84 mph this winter with developing feel for his off-speed. The same can be said for RHP Tanner Graham (Columbia Hickman, 2025), as the 6-foot, 185-pound right-hander also peaked at 84 mph this winter from a clean, upside operation.

Moving over to the position crop, INF Lucas Wietholder (Father Tolton Catholic, 2025) headlines what is already shaping up to be a deep group. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound infielder showed all sorts of upside on both sides of the ball this winter, especially should he physically fill out his frame over the next few years. C Crew Norden (Rock Bridge, 2025) and C JD Dohrmann (Vianney, 2025) are both strong, sturdy catchers with above-average barrel strength.
