Magdiel Cotto Added to 2020 Super 60 Roster

Eddie Tisdale
Scouting Director - South Carolina

On Monday, Magdiel Cotto was added to the PBR Super 60 roster. Cotto is arguably the premier LHP in the Palmetto State. His mixture of electric stuff, elite pitch ability, and projection (6-4,230) could make him a target for potential MLB suitors later this spring. The University of South Carolina signee was a participant in the SA Border Battle and East Coast Pro Showcase in 2019. Cotto was up to 90 at the PBR Mid Atlantic ProCase and has shown the ability to locate his FB to both sides of the plate and command multiple off speed pitches.

ABOUT THE SUPER 60

This is the 18th Annual Super 60 Pro Showcase.

This prestigious, invitation-only event features only the top draft prospects in the Prep Baseball Report’s expansive coverage area. Over the last 17 years, the Super 60 has become the most heavily scouted preseason event for potential draft picks. The primary purpose of the Super 60 is to give professional area scouts, cross-checkers and scouting directors a head start to the high school season. The event is for draft-eligible Class of 2020 prospects.

Last year, over 100 professional scouts of all levels were in attendance. Most Major League teams had 4-6 scouts of all levels in attendance. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 300 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 20 first-round picks and 23 second-rounders.

Magdiel Cotto LHP / 1B / Nation Ford, SC / 2020

6-foot-4, 230-pound South Carolina signee. The lefty sat 87-90 out of an effortless delivery with a very clean arm action. Currently the fastball is flat, but Cotto's high 3/4 arm slot will allow him to manipulate the baseball in the future to add some movement. Currently throws a curveball and slider that have similar shape with both pitches sitting in the upper 70s. Eventually the two pitches will likely meld into one or the other with the potential to throw a cutter off of his fastball. Cotto's changeup was an above average offering sitting 79-81 with sink and arm-side run. Look for additional velocity from Cotto as he grows into his projectable frame and adds functional strength.
