The Maryland High School Scouting Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Staff. Catonsville


Mark Brady SS Catonsville 2020

Athletic body type and plenty of room to fill out frame. Was solid defensively at shortstop with clean actions around the bag. Hits from a balanced stance at the plate with a small leg kick load. Creates nice hand separation and showed some bat speed. Used the whole field going 3-for 4 with 2 RBI's against Dulaney from the two hole. Level swing path with nice lower half involvement. Line drive type hitter with some strength and power present. Interesting under the radar uncommitted 2020.

Nick Eiswert OF Catonsville 2021
Athletic body type and projectable 6'3'', 185 pound frame. Hits from the left side in a slightly crouched, balanced, open stance. Struggled at the plate against Dulaney early on but showed strength and power driving one out to left center field for a double off the fence. Short, uphill swing path with nice extension through contact. Big time outfield prospect to look at in the 2021 class.

Reid Bark OF Dulaney 2021

Athletic switch-hitting sophomore outfielder that can run. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance. Uses the whole field well at the plate and showed some pull-side pop with a home run over the right field fence from the left side. Showed nice rhythm in the box and good hand separation. Short, level swing path with some bat speed and quick hands.

Finn Drew C Dulaney 2020
Athletic, left-handed hitting catcher with some catch and throw ability. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance with a wide base. Knee-to-knee high leg kick load creating some hand separation. Stays behind the ball well with a short, level line drive swing. Uses the whole field well and stays within himself.

Cole McGee LHP Dulaney 2020
Tall, athletic body type and projectable frame. Controlled side-step wind-up and leg kick into a tall balance point. Clean hand separation and long arm action, creating some arm speed through release. Throws from a high three-quarter arm slot with easy effort. Gets downhill and finishes over front side. Fastball sat 76-77 mph and breaking ball showed big, gradual 12/6 shape at 63-64 mph.

Broadneck


Nick Gatton RHP Broadneck 2019 (Stevenson)

Tall, athletic body type and projectable frame. Up-tempo side-step wind-up and high leg kick into a tall, compact balance point. Lands slightly closed and throws across his body from a mid three-quarter slot. Shorter arm action creating quick arm speed through release. Throws with regular effort and finishes upright. Went four innings for the win over North County at home throwing 74% of his 49 pitches for strikes, giving up two hits, and struck out two. Fastball sat 81-83 mph and breaking ball had tight spin and some 11/5 shape at 71-72 mph. Change-up was 75-76 mph.

Matt Isaac 1B Broadneck 2020
Big 6'0'', 250 pound frame. Went 2-for-2 with a double, 2 RBI's, and a run scored. Showed some strength and power at the plate. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance. Smooth back load with quick bat speed. Short, level swing path and stayed back well on this double to the opposite field on an off-speed pitch.

Ethan Soto SS Broadneck 2020
Athletic shortstop that moves well in the infield. Went 2-for-2 with a triple, a walk, an RBI, and 2 runs scored against North County. Hits from a well-balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate. Quick hand load and short stride. Showed short, quick bat speed and stays behind the ball well. Uses the whole field as highlighted by a well struck triple to the oppo gap.

Dylan Tenney 3B/SS Broadneck 2019 
Athletic body type and hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate. Roped an RBI double down the line to left field against North County. Short, slightly uphill swing path with quick hands and some bat speed. Nice rhythm and quiet approach in the box.

Josh Nevins C North County 2019

Athletic catching prospect. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance from the right side. Average stride length and short, level swing path with some pop. Showed a nice line drive approach and patience at the plate. Squared up balls in both at-bats with nothing to show for it.

Carson Lowman LHP North County 2021
Tall, projectable 6'3'', 170 pound frame. Quick side-step wind-up and high kick-out leg lift into a compact balance point with hands set high. Smooth delivery and lands slightly closed to the plate falling off slightly to third base. Shorter arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot with easy effort. Struggled a bit during the game get ahead on hitters only throwing 53% of his pitches for strikes. Fastball sat 79-81 mph, and breaking ball was 63-65 with some 11/5 shape. Change-up ranged 70-73 mph.
