McCutcheon's Braden Giroux Chooses Wabash Valley

By Phil Wade

Indiana Executive Director

Braden GirouxBraden Giroux, a member of Team Indiana at the 2013 Future Games, committed to Wabash Valley last week.  At 6-feet, 170 pounds, Giroux is an athletic left-handed outfielder with aggressive defensive actions. At the Unsigned Senior Games last month he showcased a strong arm at 83 mph with carry and accuracy. The McCutcheon senior takes good routes to the ball and has enough speed to track down balls in the gaps. Offensively, the left-handed hitter hits from an athletic setup and has above average bat speed.

PBR: Ultimately why did you choose Wabash Valley?

Giroux:  I chose Wabash Valley because it felt like home to me. Coach Fournier and his coaching staff really made me feel welcome on my first visit. They have a really great track record on turning out D1 players after two years, and that really got my attention.

PBR: Where did Wabash Valley first see you compete?

Giroux:  Grand Park in the Future Stars Tournament.

PBR: When did you take your first visit to Wabash Valley?

Giroux:  October 27th, 2014.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play when you first arrive on campus?

Giroux:  Coach Fournier wants me to make an immediate impact as a freshman and play center field.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Giroux:  Heartland CC, Northern Illinois.

PBR : You were a member of Team Indiana at the 2013 Future Games, talk about your experience playing in that event?

Giroux:  The 2013 MWFG's were a blast. Being selected to play amongst the top players in the 2015 class was an incredible honor, and the amount of exposure I received was unbelievable. I'd do anything to go back and relive it.

PBR : Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Giroux:  Former McCutcheon Maverick Clayton Richard. He has been such a great role model to me as a baseball player and just as a person. His work ethic is incredible.

PBR : You play for Pony Express in the summer, how has playing with them helped you develop as a baseball player?

Giroux:  Jon Richardson and the Pony Express Organization have done nothing but great things for me. I have played under some really good coaches and learned all kinds of great things the past four years. Jon always put me in front of all kinds of college coaches so there was never a lack of exposure.

PBR : What are your goals both personally and as a team this coming spring at McCutcheon?

Giroux:  This year for McCutcheon as a team we would like to win 30+ games and make it to the state championship. Personally, I'm going to help us achieve our goal by hitting at least .500 and 5+ homers with 30+ stolen bases.

PBR : Who is the toughest pitcher you've faced in Indiana?

Giroux:  Grant Sloan.

PBR : What were your stats last year at McCutcheon?

Giroux:  .320 BA, .455 OBP, 1 HR, 20 RBIs.

PBR : What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Giroux:  Playing in the 2013 PBR Midwest Futures Games.
