Michigan Insider: Updated Class of 2019 Player Rankings (August)

With the summer showcases coming to a close, Prep Baseball Report Michigan takes a look at the 2019 rankings. Many new prospects come into the rankings while many prospects have made jumps, some drastically. Below we will take a look at “What’s New At The Top”, “Rising Prospects”, and some of the top uncommitted prospects.

What's New At The Top

Christopher MokmaAs the summer months went on, 2019 prospects continued to burst on the scene. RHP Christopher Mokma (Pictured right, Holland Christian) moved from the number 3 in our initial rankings to the number 1 spot. Aaron Dolney (Canton HS), Ben Clark (Dearborn HS) and Jared Ryan (Fenton HS) entered the rankings in the top 10. Mokma, a projectable 6-foot-3 RHP, jumped up to number 1 after sitting 81-82 mph on the mound while touching as high as 85 mph with big time movement.

Dolney, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound two-way prospect had an excellent performance at the Top Prospects Games this summer. He registered an 85 mph exit velocity while popping a 2.03-2.22 to 2B. He was close to dominant on the mound surrendering no hits and striking out 4 of 8 batters. Fastball ranged 78-83 mph.

Clark, a 5-foot-10 hardworking player who may garner the nickname Charlie Hustle. Clark swings the bat well. He registered an 87 mph exit velocity. He fielded his position well taking good routes and arm showed carry from the OF.

Ryan, a 6-foot-2, 190 pound catching prospect is a very good defender who can handle the bat. Already with a polished frame he shows good footwork behind the plate while popping a 1.95-2.15 to 2B. Has displayed the ability to drive the ball at the plate. Registered an 87 mph exit velocity.

The Risers

Logan EvansWhile Dolney, Clark, and Ryan recently joined the top 10. Logan Evans (Pictured right) rose to the #4 position after a dominant performance during the Top Prospect Games. RHP /3B Owen Malinowski saw a rise in the rankings joining the top 15. After a strong showing at events this summer.  

Evans, a 6-foot-3, 185 pound two-way prospect that has a projectable frame with power at the plate. Showed athleticism at 3B throwing 82 mph across the infield. Has a flat swing that makes solid contact. 88 mph exit velocity. On the mound, he has good command over 4 pitches. His fastball has been as high as 83 mph. Along with a dancing knuckle ball, sharp curve and changeup.

Malinowski, an RHP that flashed a fastball that touched 80 mph with plus movement. A sharp breaking curve 70-73 mph and a 72 mph deceptive changeup.

  • Top Two-Way Prospects: Dillon Kark, Aaron Dolney, Cameron French
