Milwaukee Rising Stars ID: Takeaways & Statistical Analysis

By: Wisconsin Staff

On April 4, the PBR Wisconsin team hosted the annual Milwaukee Rising Stars ID held at the MOSH Performance Center in Franklin, Wis. This event featured prospects from the 2027 and 2028 graduating classes and has consistently provided our staff with the names of players to consider inviting to the PBR Junior Future Games where they’ll represent Team Wisconsin at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA., at the end of the summer.

Now, at the event's conclusion, our staff will begin to compile some of our takeaways from this event while also hitting on some of the day's stat leaders. Below you'll find which players popped to our scouts, as well as which prospects headlined our respective statistical categories.

TAKEAWAYS

+ RHP/1B Carter Gordon (Germantown, 2027) authored one of the top performances we saw during the ‘Rising Stars’ showcase circuit during our time at the MOSH. Listed at a ultra advanced 6-foot-3, 250-pounds, Gordon started off his day by taking a loud round of BP, regardless of age. During his round, the righty starts balanced and tall, before toe-tapping into an aggressive yet controlled foot strike. He reached a max EV of 98.7 mph, and averaged 90.4 mph, both of which are advanced numbers for someone his age. While Gordon impressed during the BP portion of the event, he really stole the show during his ‘pen. Despite his young age Gordon syncs up his large frame exceptionally well and pairs it with a clean, quick arm that is advanced well above his years. During his ‘pen, Gordon ran his fastball all the way up to 88.1 mph, and sat in the 84-87 mph range on this pitch that plays with some major life through the zone. As for his offspeeds, he killed spin on a low-80s changeup that featured some arm side run with depth. He also spun in two different breaking balls, the first being a more traditional curveball with 11/5 action in the low-70s and the second a tight slider in the mid-70s. Already at his young age, Gordon showed off some impressive facets to his game and he still boasts plenty of upside in his large frame.

+ INF/RHP Ethan Rudolph (St. Thomas More, 2027) is a projectable athlete who stands 6-foot, 158-pounds. He not only showcased what he could do at the plate, in the infield, and on the mound, but he ran the best 60-yard dash of the day at 7.32 seconds, with quick burst and fast turnover once underway. At the plate, Rudolph drove balls to both gaps with a flat and efficient swing path maxing out his exit velocity in the mid-to-upper 80s. In the infield, he displayed a quick first step, showed soft hands and repeated a short arc arm slot and made accurate throws on target. On the mound, he flashed three quality offerings with a fastball into the mid-to-upper 70 mph range with feel for the zone.

+ OF/RHP Bishop Stoltz (West Bend West, 2027) is another high-waisted projectable athlete who impressed as a two-way prospect. The 5-foot-8 athlete ran the second-best 60 time of the day at 7.37 seconds. He then showed off a flat handsy swing with quickness and barrel feel with solid exit velocities in the mid-80s. On the mound, he showed off his four-pitch mix with feel for both a curveball and a slider and drove his fastball through the glove in the mid-70s.

+ OF/RHP Aidan Devine (New Berlin West, 2027) is a 6-foot, 155-pound projectable athlete who ran the fifth-best 60 yard dash of the day at 7.51 seconds. At the plate, Devine was lacing balls to both gaps with a short and compact bat path with feel for the barrel. He registered the fifth-best exit velocity of the day at 85 mph. On the mound, his fastball maxed out in the mid-to-upper 70s and showcased a 12/6 curveball and feel for the changeup.

+ C/RHP Grady Cheever (Germantown, 2027) was one of the biggest winners of the day as he opened eyes with the bat, behind the plate and on the mound. Cheever has a very projectable build at 5-foot-11, 135-pounds with a lot of room for more growth and mass. Cheever started his day by running a solid 7.58 second 60-yard dash which was the eighth-best time for the event. At the plate, the switch hitting backstop hit liners all over the field with a loose free and easy swing maxing out his exit velocity at 85 mph and hit the farthest ball of the day at 293 feet. Behind the plate, Cheever showcased soft hands and a willingness to keep balls in front on pitches in the dirt. On the mound, Cheever has an athletic delivery and a fastball that reached into the upper-70s (78 mph max) which was the fourth-fastest of the event. He displayed a four-pitch mix with feel to land the entire arsenal for strikes.

+ INF/RHP Mason Lusic (Waterford Union, 2027) is a long-levered, high waisted, two way prospect who stands 6-foot, 163-pounds. He showcased his quick hands with barrel feel lacing balls through both gaps, registering a max exit velocity of 85 mph. He displayed soft and reliable hands in the infield and showed an accurate arm across the infield. On the mound, he drove the ball down hill at 74 mph through the zone and paired that with a solid 12/6 breaking ball and a change up thrown with fastball intent.

+ RHP/OF Connor Blaschko (Waukesha North, 2027) stands 5-foot-8, 138-pounds with a projectable frame. Blaschko showcased a short and direct bat path with the ability to stay long through the baseball driving it through the middle of the field. On the mound, Blaschko showed off his athletic delivery and drove his fastball through the zone maxing out in the upper-70s. His curveball and changeup show the makings of solid secondary weapons as well which give him a three pitch mix to profile as a starter in the future.

+ LHP/OF Mason Robertson (Oak Creek, 2027) is a loose projectable athlete who stands 5-foot-8, 140-pounds with plenty of room to fill out. He showed off his feel for the barrel by consistently driving balls through the middle of the field with a quick handsy swing. His exit velocities registered in the mid-80 mph range. On the mound, the left-hander works with a loose and repeatable delivery with a fastball in the mid-70s and showed the ability to drive balls through the glove. He has a couple of different breaking balls with his slider and curveball which both show solid shape and lateness to their break.

+ OF Hayden Konczal (Nicolet, 2027) has a strong and thick build standing 5-foot-8, 170-pounds. His swing is very flat and on plane and he stays through the ball very well which allowed him to hit balls to both gaps and registered one of the highest exit velocities of the day at 87 mph. During defensive work, Konczal showed off impressive arm strength at 83 mph, showing solid carry and accuracy through the target.

+ RHP/1B Finley Pearson (Shoreland Lutheran, 2027) stands 6-foot, 205-pounds with strength throughout his large frame. He impressed with the bat, hitting line drives all over the field while registering mid-80s exit velocities and with a max distance of 284 feet. He really put himself on the map as a prospect on the mound by driving an 83 mph fastball through the zone which was the second hardest fastball of the event. He pairs the heater with a hard curveball that flashed a tight break and feel for a change up.

+ OF/LHP Joseph Shaw (Muskego, 2027) opened eyes at the event with an impressive showing with the bat and on the mound. Shaw stands 5-foot-11, 145 pounds with more fill and projection coming to his athletic frame. He hits with a well-sequenced swing, driving line drives all over the field. On defense, his 86 mph throws from the outfield were easily the best of the day showing carry and accuracy through the target. On the mound, his fastball topped out at 82 mph with an astounding 2400 rpm spin rate. His curveball shows impressive spin as well at 2562 rpm with tight 1/7 shape and break. His slider also has 2500+ rpm’s and has hard and tight lateral break to the pitch.

+ INF/C Tyler Flemming (Waukesha North, 2027) is a 5-foot-10 projectable athlete with skills on defense and at the plate. Flemming showcased skills behind the plate with the ability to turn the ball around quickly and accurately to second base. Dibb had the second hardest max exit velocity (89 mph), the second hardest avg. exit velocity of the event (82.5 mph), and hit the fourth farthest ball (287 feet) showing off his power. In the infield, he works through the ball with soft hands and an accurate throwing arm. Dibb is definitely a prospect to keep tabs on in the state.

+ INF/RHP Mason Sturma (Muskego, 2027) is listed at 5-foot-10, 120-pounds with plenty of room left for size and strength to be added to his athletic frame.
