Missouri Daily Game Roundup From Thursday 4/5

In an abbrevaited version of the daily game round up:

In the Skip Schulz/West Central Missouri Tournament at Crane Field (Univ of Central Missouri), Boonville gave Holden their first loss of the season, 4-1.

Boonville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. CF Jacob Francis lead the game off with a walk moved to second on stolen base, and would score the first run of the game on a throwing error following 3B Jalen Poindexter’s double to right center. Poindexter crossed the plate after a 1B Alex Viertal reached on an error.

“It's big early go get some runs when we have a lot of young guys that don't have a lot of confidence right now. They can play a little looser the rest of the way,” said head coach Tim Edwards.

Boonville would push another run across the board in the second. DH Keith Poindexter hit a line drive single to left to start the inning. A couple of fielders choice grounders by SS Kyle Venderlinden and RF Ethan Sander would load the bases, with Poindexter coming to score on a bases loaded walk to 2B Zach Nelson.

Holden would finally score a run in the top of the third. 2B Jake Bryant would come around to score after leading the inning off with a single, advancing to second on a single by 3B Dylan Riley, and coming around to score on a two out single by pitcher Austin Van Meter. That is all the Holden offense would muster.

Holden would threaten in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and no one out, but closer Dallas Franklin, in his first action of the season, would pitch Boonville out of the jam without a scratch.

"He was able to gut it out," said Edwards on Franklin pitching out of the bases loaded jom.

Boonville would score an insurance run in the sixth, with LF Keaton Barnes leading the inning off with a walk and eventually coming around to score on a RBI single by CF Jacob Francis.

"We had two freshman out there today making their first starts, and they did real well today. Alex Virtle and Ethan Sander in the field, and three in the line up. It is good to get a win when you have those young guys out there," said Edwards

In the second game at Crane Field, Warrensburg pounded out fourteen hits en route to a 13-4 win over Boonville. Starting pitcher Aaron Krertman struck out fourteen batters, while Nico Codemo, Alex St. Pierre, Chase Leavy, Matt Mayden, Harriosn Hill, and Kyle Denkner each collected two hits a piece.
