With 2020 now in the past, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best 2021 high school coverage that can be found anywhere. Starting in January, we began releasing team previews for squads across the state. Ahead, we will have Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings coming your way.

2021 Spring Team Preview: Montpelier Locomotives

Team Name: Montpelier Locomotives
Head Coach: Toby Hutchison
Division: IV
2019 Record: 18-5
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 3

2021 Team Strengths:

  • Athletic Drive: Our team is well conditioned and competitive at everything they do. The boys are driven and determined to win every rep. We look forward to seeing that translate onto the field.
  • Versatility: Almost every single player on our team can play multiple positions. If one person goes down, another one steps in to fill his place.
  • Leadership: We currently have seven seniors on the team who know the goals and expectations of this program. The underclassmen listen and are able to accept coaching not only from our staff but from their teammates as well.

Coach Outlook: "If we had to characterize the outlook for our season, it would be cautiously optimistic. Every team in the state lost out on their 2019 season and there are a lot of unknowns for us as a program. We have prepared our players to the best of our abilities, but it really comes down to how well they can translate our coaching onto the field. We are led by three BBC honorees from 2019, but the seven seniors have all come together to take control of the team. Our underclassmen have big shoes to fill and I think they understand the expectations of this program."

  • Blake Altaffer (Senior, 3 Letters earned, Pitcher/3B/Utility) - First team BBC as a sophomore. .327 AVG, .570 OBP, 12 RBI, .933 ERA, 55 SO in 30 IP, Committed to Ohio Northern University to play baseball.
  • Collin Crisenbery (Senior, 3 Letters earned, Pitcher/CF/Utility)- Second team BBC as a sophomore. .347 AVG, .473 OBP, 25 SB, Committed to Owens Community College to play baseball.
  • Tylor Yahraus - Honorable mention BBC as a Sophomore(Senior, 3 Letters earned, Pitcher/SS/Utility) .339 AVG, .397 OBP, 11 SB
