Natural State Games; Quick Hits Day 1

The Natural State Games, started Saturday at afternoon, and they lived up to the tradition of an event with depth in talent. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights, from the day.

2018’s

RHP-Parker Edwards was efficient in three innings of work. He kept hitters off balance with a solid mix of fastball and curveball. He uses a repeated delivery, with quick rhythm, short arm action. He maintains balance throughout and finishes tall. His fastball worked 81-83 mph with late life. His curveball was thrown 70-72 mph with 11/5 action with late break. Edwards has a large frame that projects to get better. He is uncommitted.

OF- Trey Harris, showed well during batting practice, a compact swing with raw bat speed. He made consistent loud contact driving balls to the pull side. Defensively he played through the ball with fluid footwork and a normal exchange. He threw the baseball accurately. Harris is an advanced athlete who is uncommitted.

MIF-Connor Boyle, Boyle is an advanced defender. He has fluid footwork, with smooth actions, a quick exchange a short arm action and an accurate arm. Offensively he used a compact swing that produced line drives. He is uncommitted.

RHP- Bo Carter was sharp in his two innings of work. He used a simple repeated delivery with a quick arm. His fastball worked 82-83 mph with a sharp slider. His slider worked 72-74 mph with 10/4 action. Carter is a legit two way player with physical strength. He is uncommitted.

OF-Jake Melton, is a physical player who shows well defensively, fluid actions, with a clean arm from a H ¾ slot with advanced arm strength. He swing is advanced intent showing raw bat speed. He rotated around balls at times but shows promise with athleticism and bat speed. He is uncommitted

2019’s

C- William Poppy continued to show advanced arm strength throwing pop times between 1.98-2.06. He continues to add strength and looks more athletic. He received well and showed proper technique in receiving. Offensively he swung with great intent, and bat speed.

OF/MIF-Jackson Huskey had one of the best rounds of batting practice, showing the ability to drive the baseball to both gaps. He starts with an athletic stance. He used a simple load stride combination and attacked the baseball with fast bat speed and slight uphill swing. Defensively he showed an improved arm action and fluid footwork in the outfield.

OF-Grant Jeffers was impressive with loud contact in game and solid batting practice. Jeffers has a large frame that has the ability to add strength. Defensively he worked through the baseball showing a solid arm action throwing from a H ¾ arm slot with an accurate arm with carry.

2020’s

This group continues to impress with its consistent depth in advanced hitters. As a whole a solid group and I look forward to diving into this groups post event notes, but I’ll hit a few high points.

C-Hayden Seldomridge, was very impressive in all facets of the day. He showed an advanced feel to receive. Solid technique blocking and threw 2.10-2.2 pop times. Offensively the left-handed hitter starts from an athletic stance. He uses fast bat speed and a slight uphill swing to consistently make hard contact.

LHP’s – Jack Hayley and Justin Graham held their own pitching multiple innings and with a solid two pitch mix. Both a solid strike throwers who will be names to watch as they continue to mature.

C-Dakotah Peters is a solid athlete and an advanced hitter. He impressed in batting practice with his physical strength and bat speed. He squared multiple balls in batting practice and recorded a hit during game play. A name to know in an advanced offensive class.

2021’s

Payton Allen and Keegan Allen were impressive as they showed advanced athleticism and arm strength. More notes to come but they showed well.

Overall

Overall this was a good day, the players battled through cooler than normal temperatures , showing the ability to play hard and compete at a high level. Day two should be a good day with a plethora of solid young pitchers on board for day two, hosted at UCA.
