Nelson Santos Dominates as Miami Beach wins 5-3

Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

Nolan Santos would mostly dominate, with nearly a complete game effort, with him only being removed with two outs in the seventh because of pitch count. The 2019 right-hander would allow two runs on four hits while striking out eleven batters. Santos worked mostly 82-86 mph with his fastball all evening and showed the ability to spin a slider that ranged from 69-74 mph.

Hialeah would get two runs in the first, thanks to a walk, single from Kevin Barreneche, sacrifice fly from Luis Aquino and a RBI double from Kevin Warrens. Nick Garcia would get the start for Hialeah, shutting down Miami Beach through two.

Eduardo Rodriguez would lead off the third with a single, followed by a bunt single from Brandon Perez. A base hit from Ricardo Garcia would load the bases and Emmanuel Arias would hit a sacrifice fly. A walk and a hit batter would then tie the game in the third.

A leadoff double from Marcus Garcia would get things going for Miami Beach in the third. Then an error and dropped fly ball would lead to a controversial play at the plate, where the runner would be called safe and give Miami Beach a lead they would not surrender. The Hi-Tides would add a run in the sixth on a double from David Munoz and a run in the seventh on an error. Santos would leave with with two outs in the seventh, while Hialeah would scratch one more run across, Ricky Garcia would shut the door with a punchout sealing the 5-3 win for Miami Beach Hi-Tides.

Scout Notes

Bramdon Perez, OF, Miami Beach (2018)
Listed at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds he has a lean, projectable and athletic frame. He showed an average arm in the outfield and while he is playing right field, could play center. Offensively, he stands tall and really trusts his hands. He shows above average hand-eye and bat to ball skills. There is present bat speed, working slightly uphill and sinking into the backside while clearing his hips. He showed a 3.7 on a bunt where he was out of the box very early and 4.04 on an infield hit from the left side. He may be uncommitted, but there is not only college interest, but draft interest as well as he is very athletic and shows a high ceiling toolset.

Nolan Santos, RHP, Miami Beach (2019)
Uncommitted, the right-hander mostly dominated throughout the evening. He has athletic bloodlines, with the father playing at FSU and FIU. He has a long, lanky frame and is very projectable. Not only is the frame projectable, but the clean and compact arm action and present hand speed should have him making a jump in the future form the present 82-85 mph fastball. He also showed a feel for a slider at 69-74 mph that has some potential and a good shape. Will be a follow going into the summer.
