It was a dominant performance on the mound on Thursday as John Carroll’s Nick Collier threw a No-hitter striking out 14 as the Patriots defeated Archbishop Curley 3-0

After Collier struck out the side in the top of the first to sit down Curley, the Patriots would strike immediately in the bottom half. An out and walk would start the inning, and John Carroll’s Ryan Archibald delivered a two strike, off balanced home run shot to center field, sailing over the fence. That lead would hold until John Carroll would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single from Stelio Stakias to give the Patriots their 3-0 lead.

The story of the game was Collier, who set the tone early and often, dominating the Curley lineup for seven innings. Collier used a steady mix of fastball and breaking ball, mixing in locations throughout to keep the Curley lineup baffled the the game. Eleven of Collier’s first twelve outs of the game came via the punch out, and he had a strikeout in six of the seven innings. Curley’s best opportunity in the game came in the final inning after Paul Nixon would make it to second bases after an outfield error to start the inning. A walk would put two on, but Collier would strike the next two hitters out. After a hit batter to load the bases, Collier would induce a strikeout to end the inning and the game and preserve the no-hitter.

John Carroll improves to 8-0 overall, 5-0 in the conference while Curley takes their first conference loss of the season moving to 5-1, 10-2 overall.

Curley plays today hosting Wantagh (NY) and their next MIAA game is on Monday v Loyola Blakefield, while John Carroll is off until next Monday when they travel to St. Mary's.
