No. 1 Indian Trail Breezes By Notre Dame

APPLETON, Wis.—Kenosha Indian Trail breezed by Notre Dame 19-0 in the first game of a four team mini-tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Notre Dame was missing some key players due to the school’s graduation ceremony in the morning. That did not bode well for the Tritons’ chances against the top-ranked Hawks. They turned to JV call-up Ryan Green to pitch, and Indian Trail took advantage.

Both teams had a scoreless first inning, but after that Indian Trail dominated the game. They bashed out nine hits in the second inning to score nine runs and put the game out of reach early on. Max Bruff, Tony Caputa, Kyle Antos, Ryan Hoerter, Nick Elsen and Nick Zeeveld all had RBIs in the inning.

There wasn’t much respite for the Tritons. Indian Trail added four more runs in the third inning thanks to RBIs from Hoerter and Michael Vignali.

The onslaught continued in the fourth inning. The Hawks tacked on five more runs to make the score 18-0. The frame was highlighted by a three-run home run by Elsen and an RBI double by Gavin Lux.

The final blow came in the top of the fifth, when Antos drew a bases loaded walk to give the Hawks a 19-0 cushion.

The Tritons had their chances to score too, but they ultimately failed to capitalize. They loaded the bases in the fourth and got two runners on base in the fifth, timely pitching by Elsen and Antos got the Hawks out of both jams.

Elsen got the win on the mound with four innings of work. He allowed three hits, walked one and struck out three. Antos pitched the last inning for Indian Trail.

Green took the loss for Notre Dame with 1.2 innings pitched and six earned runs. However, only eight of the runs the Notre Dame pitchers allowed were earned. Six errors by the defense did not do the team any favors.

Every Indian Trail starter had a hit and an RBI in the game. Elsen finished 3-for-4 with six RBIs, while Hoerter and Antos both had three RBIs apiece. Danny Stewart went 1-for-2 with a double for Notre Dame.

The Hawks went on to lose 4-3 to Kimberly in extra innings in their second game of the day, while Notre Dame fell to Kenosha Tremper, 8-2.
