CHICAGO, IL - No. 10 Mount Carmel squared off with No. 23 St. Rita at Mike Zunica Field Thursday afternoon in a Catholic League Blue matchup. A seven run rally in the fifth inning was plenty run support for St. Rita to assure a 9-2 victory over the Caravan, gaining the second victory over their conference rival in three days.

The bats woke up for St. Rita in the bottom of the fifth inning scattering six singles, one double and two walks scoring seven in the frame. Matt Callahan, Drew Komendant and David Gleaves, Mike Skoraczewski, Jalen Greer and Frank Napleton all singled in the inning. Skoraczewski started the RBI parade with an opposite field single with the bases loaded setting the table for the rest of the lineup, busting open the flood gates. Callahan had the only extra base hit in the frame, doubling in his second plate appearance.

Skoraczewski also doubled and scored on a defensive miscue off a bunt single by Brendan Carrane in the sixth inning. Skoraczewski finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and one walk. Napleton went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI. Callahan finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Greer went 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Komendant and Gleaves both collected a hit apiece on the day. Carrane had a productive day going 1-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and one walk.

Mount Carmel had the momentum early in the contest scoring the first run of the game in the second inning courtesy of an RBI single by Diego Munoz plating teammate Jake Kapers. Kapers singled, stole second and came around to score on the hard hit base knock to left by Munoz. Kapers finished 1-for-3 with one run scored and one stolen base. Munoz went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
