North Rockland vs. Suffern: Game Recap

Vincent Mercogliano
Greater Westchester Area

North Rockland 4, Suffern 0

With a league title on the line, North Rockland senior left-hander Eric Sandusky (Cortland recruit) threw a one-hitter in a 4-0 win over Suffern on Thursday in the seventh annual Vincent Crotty and Chris Konkowski Wood Bat Memorial Game.

Sandusky allowed a hit to the third batter of the game, but would not give up another. He surrendered three walks with five strikeouts on 90 pitches (45 strikes), getting a lot of groundballs despite shaky command. His only jam came in the third inning when two walks and a hit batman loaded the bases, but he wiggled out of trouble without allowing a run. North Rockland played error-free behind him, including a sparkling over-the-shoulder catch in right field from Julio Rebolledo in the fourth.

Senior shortstop Francisco Soriano was the catalyst for the Red Raiders. He doubled in the first inning, eventually scoring on an error for a 1-0 lead. Soriano also walked, stole second and scored on Chris Dodrill’s RBI single in the third. He scored his third run in the fifth inning when Jason Salva was walked with the bases loaded.

With its 4-3 win over Warwick on Saturday, North Rockland’s winning streak is up to eight in a row and 12 of its last 13.
