Statistical Performances & Hitting Notes From Indiana Area Code Workout

Below are statistical performances and quick notes from many of the Indiana players in attendance at yesterday's Area Code workout at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.

Pitching velos

Ashe Russell---The RHP showed a fastball that sat 91-94, bumping up to 95-96 mph.  Slider was 79-80 while the changeup sat 80-82. Threw all three pitches for a strike with good movement. 

Brady Cherry---The RHP's fastball was consistently 88 mph.  Threw a 69-70 mph breaking ball and 76-77 mph changeup.

Bryan Hoeing---The RHP showcased an 87-90 mph fastball.  Breaking ball showed more of a slurvey shape at 73-75.  Changeup sat 79-80.  

Cameron Curry---The RHP was 84-87 with his fastball.  Breaking ball sat 68-71 while the changeup was 74-76.  

Grant Inman---The RHP's fastball was 88-90, touching 91 on multiple occasions.  Curveball was 70-74 while the changeup sat 73-76.

Jarrett Montgomery---The RHP's fastball sat 88-90 before touching 93 on his last pitch.  Showcased two breaking balls (69-70 CB and 77-80 SL).  Changeup was 82 mph.

Jordan Poore---The LHP was consistently hit 88 with the fastball, touching 91 once.  Slider was 75-76 while the changeup sat 82-83.

Matt Kent---The righty was 82-84 with his fastball, touching 86 once.  Curveball sat 71-72 while the changeup was 75-76.  

Noah Burkholder---The RHP showcased a 88-90 mph fastball, touching 92 on his last pitch.  Threw a 84-87 2-seamer to go along with his 74 mph CB.  Changeup was 77-78.

Nolan Watson---The RHP showcased an 88-90 mph fastball and 86 mph cutter.  Showed two different breaking balls for a strike (80-81 mph slider, 74 mph CB).  Changeup sat 77-80.

Hitting Notes

Adam Roser---The LHH starts open and uses a short stride.  Average bat speed.  Overall good rhythm.

Austin Champan---The RHH hits from a crouch set up using a short stride.  Swing is short and compact. Tendency to over rotate.  Showcased the ability to use all fields.  

Bailey Partlow---The RHH uses a short stride with small load.  Above average bat speed.  Pull side hitter. 

Blake Ruckman---The RHH starts wide, using a short stride.  Tendency to drop his hands and bars during the load.  Barreled up the baseball during BP producing line drives.  

Brady Cherry
---
The RHH starts from a balanced setup with a high back elbow.  Uses a short stride with smooth load.  Displayed good bat speed.  Produces good lift showing the ability to drive the gaps. 

Braden Giroux---The LHH hits from a wide setup with little to no stride.  Gets good use of his lower half. Showcased the ability to hit to all fields, consistently barreling up the baseball.  

Brett Baker---The RHH displayed good bat speed.  Bars during his load.  Uses a short stride with fluid rhythm.  Over rotates with the lower half.  

Cal Krueger---The RHH uses a balanced setup with smooth load.  Good use of lower half, line drive hitter. At times gets a little long and drops his hands.  High contact hitter. 


C.J. Vaugn
---The LHH uses a narrow setup with CF approach.  Tendency to dive out over the plate. Consistently produces line drives; high contact hitter.  

Clay Dungan---The LHH starts open using a short stride.  Average bat speed with an up the middle approach.  Some use of lower half; high contact hitter.  


Connor Christman---The RHH starts slightly open using a short stride.  Simple approach with good swing plane, consistently produces line drives. His projectable 6-foot-2, 190 pound frame suggests he'll continue to add more power. 

Davie Inman---The RHH uses a toe tap while hitting from a crouch position.  Possesses tons of bat speed with projectable pop.  

Devin Mann---The RHH showcased bat speed, continually driving the ball up the middle.  Consistently barrels up the baseball with juice.

Dillin Diehm---The LHH showcased a smooth load with good rhythm.  Displayed the ability to drive the ball to all fields.  Ball jumps off his bat.  Gap to gap hitter with occasional HR power. 


Drake Peggs---The LHH hits from a slight crouch using a short stride.  Showcased quick hands with a small load showcasing the ability to hit to all fields.  Barrels up the baseball consistently.  

Dre Davis---The RHH starts from a balanced setup using a short stride.  Consistently barreled up the baseball with some gap to gap power.  Good balance throughout with some bat speed.  

Drew Bertram---The RHH starts slightly open using a short stride.  Solid hitter when he stays up the middle.  Average bat speed.  

Grant Bramwell---The RHH uses a slight leg lift with minimal load.  Showcased a level path to the baseball with above average bat speed.  Up the middle approach, line drive type hitter.  

Jacson McGowan
---The RHH possesses a projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds.  Starts in a balanced setup.  Line drive hitter with a center-field approach. Struggled to create lift, but swing is athletic and overall actions are there.  

Jarrett Montgomery---The RHH starts tall and open, showcasing good bat speed.  Gets long at times, but consistently drove the left-center gap.  Good juice.  


Jaxon Shirley---The RHH is mechanically sound.  Uses a short stride with smooth load.  Above average hand speed with good balance throughout.  Line drive type hitter that should produce more power as he matures.  Possesses a good frame at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds.  

Josh Wooten---The RHH starts wide using a small stride.  Lacks use of his lower half but the hands work. 

Kody Hoese---The RHH uses a toe tap/drag with a right-center approach.  Showcased good bat control average bat speed.   Projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 165 pounds suggests he'll continue to add power as he adds strength. 

Luke Miller
---The RHH continues to showcase tons of bat speed with juice. Consistently barrels up the baseball, driving the gaps.  One of hottest bats within the state.  

Mitchell Garrity---The LHH starts in a balanced setup.  Load is smooth and uses a short stride. Showcased above average bat speed with good rhythm. Ability to drive the gaps.

Nathan Targgart---The RHH uses a short stride with a slight leg lift.  Above average bat speed with pull side power.  Showcased good balance throughout his swing.  

Nick Jones---The RHH possesses a small frame.  Starts slightly open and possesses average bat speed with level swing plane.  High contact type hitter that produces line drives.  Will continue to get better as he adds strength.  

Nick Podkul---The RHH starts open with high hands out in front of his body.  Showcased a CF approach. Possesses good bat speed. Ability to drive the baseball.  

Noah Etchison---The RHH uses a short stride with small load.  Showcased average bat speed.  Good balance throughout, line drive type hitter.  

Nolan Watson---The RHH showcased a quiet approach with minimal load.  Well above average bat speed with gap to gap power.  

Owen Young---The RHH starts open with high hands.  Minimal load with good bat speed.  Struggles to create lift.  Hard contact.  

Ryan Pepiot
---The RHH starts open with a high back elbow.  Showcased  above average bat speed with power potential.  Occasionally pulls off.  Possesses a strong, projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds.

Takahiro Yamada---The RHH possesses good rhythm. No stride. The hands work.  Ability to hit to all fields and drive the gaps.

T.J. Collett---A top LHH in the Midwest possesses plus bat speed.  Very smooth with good lift. Possesses HR power to all fields.  

Thomas Hall---The LHH uses a short stride with smooth load.  Showcased some bat speed with the ability to create lift.  Average use of lower half.  

Tyler Richardson---A strong LHH with big frame.  Starts open with very little load.  Creates lift with the ability to drive the gaps.  


Zack Thompson---The LHH is known for his pitching, but he's very athletic at the plate with a smooth load and bat speed.  Continually showcased the ability to drive the gaps and barrel up the baseball.
