Today, we look at a physically impressive RHP and corner infielder for Pryor that has been trending up on both sides of the ball recently, Gus Collins.

Scouting Report

2/11/17
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound physically advanced sophomore with a strong lower half. Pitches from a slightly up-tempo wind up with rhythm and a violent finish. The arms circle is short with a quick change of direction in the back, comes through a high-3/4 window, fast out front. Fastball generally keeps its plane, flashes downhill tilt and life in the bottom of the zone, 80-83 mph. Slider shows late 11/5 shape, 74-75 mph. Curveball rolls, 70-72 mph, 12/6 shape with depth. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, some lift. Hits from a slightly open, balanced, athletic stance. Crouches into his load, some bend at the waist, uphill path with a high finish. Uses his levers to produce an 84 mph exit velo. Defensively, shows soft, reliable hands when fielding and picking. Throws from a high 3/4 slot, 85 mph, with excellent carry and accuracy.

5/31/17
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound durable build with strength throughout. Works from a simple, slightly up-tempo delivery. Has a short arm circle in the back with a quick change of direction before coming through a high-3/4 slot with a violent finish. Fastball had been up to 83 before, but sat 80-81 with some downhill tilt when at the bottom of the zone. Curveball shows 11/5 shape and flashed late depth with tight spin 66-67 mph. Changeup has fade at 71-72 mph. In the game, was around the zone with all three pitches. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a wide, quiet, and athletic stance. Uses a smooth load, some length, flat path to contact with a high finish, strong hands. In BP, showed a middle to pull approach with pop and strength, 89 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.76 60. Defensively, at first base, shows aggressive actions with active feet and good hands. Violent on the throw with a quick arm, 85 mph with accuracy. In the game, hit three balls to the shortstop, reaching base once. 

12-17-17
A physically advanced 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame with strength throughout. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from and open and slightly knee-knocked, quiet set-up. Uses a very gradual and smooth load and small leg lift before launching his hands on a slightly uphill path with some length. In BP, shows a pull approach with lift and advanced pop from bat speed and strength, mostly barrels, 89 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.76 60. Defensively, shows aggressive actions around the bag with steady hands, arm action has moderate length with advanced arm strength, throwing 85 mph to second on the double player turn from first. 

2/4/18
A physically impressive 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame with strength. On the mound, works from an average tempo and high effort delivery with a short stride and hops the finish. Arm action is short in the back making a quick and fluid circle before coming through a high-¾ slot with arm speed. Fastball keeps its plane at 83-85 mph, mostly 85s, some strikes. Slider flashes late and 11/5 shape with depth, especially as a chase pitch, thrown with full arm speed, spins out at times, 74-76 mph, could develop into a plus pitch. Changeup has consistent late fade, thrown with full arm speed, 76-77 mph. Overall, Collins is going to help someone on the mound at the next level with his great frame, quick arm, and potentially two plus off-speed offerings.

Uses a big and smooth load with a short stride before launching his hands on an uphill path with some length, showing advanced bat speed. In BP, shows an all fields approach with consistent lift and some pop, mostly barrels, 96 mph exit velo. Defensively, shows above average hands and active footwork, throws from a high-¾ slot with accuracy and arm strength, 85 mph. 

4/5/18
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound physically advanced sophomore with a strong lower half. Pitches from a slightly up-tempo wind up with rhythm and a violent finish.
