Ohio Underclass Games: Team 2 Player Analysis

Alex Harter, RHP, Libert Benton HS, 2015

6-foot-3, 175-pound righty with thin frame and plenty of room to fill out. Uses big leg kick in his delivery. Throws through high ¾ arm slot with long, easy arm action. Delivery shows regular effort and has some deception. Fastball sat at 79-80 mph and showed some sink to it. His best off-speed pitch is a 74-75 mph changeup with good downward sink in the zone. Induced several bad swings with the pitch. Also showed a 66-67 mph breaking ball with some spin to it and a 63 mph knuckleball.

Andrew Huser, RHP/OF, Lakota West HS, 2015

6-foot, 175-pound prospect with average frame. From the outfield, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 79 mph with a bit of carry and good accuracy to his throws. Needs to continue improving fluidity of his footwork and playing through the ball. At the plate, he shows his best tool. The right-handed hitter starts with an open stance. Takes a short stride and shows good use of his lower half. Has some quickness in his hands. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. Recorded top exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 4.5 out of the box. On the mound, he sat 77-80 mph through a ¾ arm slot with long arm action. Fastball was straight and breaking ball showed 11/5 action at 69-70 mph.

Azim Qadri, OF, Walsh Jesuit HS, 2015

6-foot, 160-pound left-handed hitting and right-handed throwing outfielder. Possess skinny, athletic frame. From the outfield, he shows long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 83 mph with accuracy to his throws. Receives the ball well and uses a quick exchange. Overall athletic actions. At the plat,e he starts with a slightly open stance. Tendency to wrap in his load, which creates some length to his swing. Takes short, slight uphill path to the ball. Showed the ability to hit to all fields in batting practice. Will increase power and production as swing path shortens. Ran a 4.44 out of the box.

Ben Beachy, IF, Springboro HS, 2015

6-foot-1, 175-pound infielder. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 71 mph across the infield. Needs to keep his feet moving through the baseball and creates better angles. Starts with an open stance from the right-side. Smooth load with short stride. Takes short path to the ball. Line drive type production. Ran a 4.65 out of the box.

Blaze Glenn, IF, Toronto HS, 2016

5-foot-9, 165-pound prospect with small, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ to over the top slot. Reached a top velocity of 76 mph. A bit raw at this point, but shows good lateral movement and is aggressive to the ball. Needs to improve receiving and softness in his hands. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance from the right side. Uses a small leg kick in his load. Takes short, level path to the ball with line drive production. Ran a 4.34 out of the box.

Brandon Henson, OF, Pickerington Central HS, 2016

5-foot-10, 165-pound outfielder with projectable, athletic frame. From the outfield, he uses long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 78 mph with accuracy to his throws. Shows some fluidity in his footwork and plays through the baseball. At the plate, he starts in a balanced stance from the right side. Uses a rotational based swing with a short stride. Minimal upper half load. Shows some quickness in his hands. Takes uphill path to the ball. Showed opposite field production in batting practice with some power to the gaps. In game play, he produced solid contact to the left side. Ran a 4.39 out of the box.

Caleb Russell, 3B/RHP, Liberty Benton HS, 2015

6-foot, 190-pound prospect with strong frame and wide shoulders. In the field, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 71 mph. Tends to be flat footed upon receiving the ball. Will improve as he consistently plays through the baseball. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in an athletic stance. uses a short stride. Takes level path to the ball. Singled up the middle during game play. Recorded 78 mph exit velocity off the tee. Ran a 4.9 out of the box. On the mound, he throws through high ¾ arm slot with some effort to his delivery. Fastball was straight at 79-81 mph. Relied on a 73-74 mph breaking ball with late 11/5 action. Throws the pitch near fastball arm speed. Showed the ability to keep hitter’s off balance with the pitch.

Cameron Drew, OF/1B, Brookside HS, 2015

6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect with big frame. Swings and throws from the left side. Projects as a corner type outfielder. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 74 mph. Uses long exchange. At the plate, he uses a short stride from a balanced stance. Takes slight uphill path to the ball. Power will increase with consistent extension. Recorded top exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 4.5 out of the box.

Christian Steele, 1B, Lebanon HS, 2016

6-foot-5, 240-pound first baseman with big, solid frame. Body is beginning to mature and tighten up. In the field, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Long reach around the bag. Needs to continue improving fluidity of footwork and lateral movement. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Uses a short stride. Takes short, slightly uphill path to the ball. Fluid rhythm to his swing. Recorded 82 mph exit velocity off the tee.

Cole Murphy, 1B/RHP, Walnut Hills HS, 2015

6-foot-6, 195-pound prospect with long, wiry frame. Projects best as a first baseman at this stage. Best tool at present is his bat. Consistently drove the ball to all fields from the left side with pull power. Short stride with slight uphill path to the ball. Consistently squared it up in batting practice and game play. Recorded top exit velocity of 87 mph off the tee. In the field, he uses short arm action through over the top slot. Has some quickness to his exchange, but needs to continue improving footwork and feel around the bag. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher throws through a high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Uses average arm speed with short, stiff arm action. Tall and fall type delivery. Fastball is straight at 77-80 mph and breaking ball shows gradual action down in the zone at 67-68 mph. Also uses a 68-69 mph changeup with similar movement to his fastball. Tends to slow down his arm speed with the pitch.

Colton Wilber, RHP, Jefferson Area HS, 2016

6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed pitcher with wiry frame. Uses a big leg kick in his delivery. Throws through high ¾ to over the top arm slot. Shows some quickness in his arm with short arm action. Delivery requires regular effort. Sat at 81 mph and touched a few times at 82 and 83 mph. Showed command of both off-speed pitches. His breaking ball sat at 74-76 mph with tight 11/5 break. Also showed a 74-76 mph changeup with good fade. Needs to stay consistent with his arm speed. Definite follow in the Class of 2016.

Daniel Mitri, C, NDCL HS, 2015

5-foot-11, 176-pound catcher with average, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through ¾ arm slot out of the crouch. Throws have some run to them at 76 mph. Pop time ranges between 2.19 to 2.24. Will get better with improved glove to hand exchange. At the plate, the right-handed hitter shows opposite field production in his swing. Uses a short stride. Will improve with more use of his lower half. Ran a 4.59 out of the box.

Dante D’Andrea, RHP, Westerville North HS, 2015

6-foot, 200-pound righty with thick, solid build. Starts in a slight crouch with a wide base as he toes the rubber out of the delivery. Uses long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Average arm speed with regular effort. Fastball sat at 78-80 mph with occasional run. Relies on a 65-66 mph breaking ball. Needs to work on maintaining arm speed with the pitch.

Deeb Haber, OF, Olentangy Liberty HS, 2016

5-foot-11, 150-pound outfield prospect with thin, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through ¾ to high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 78 mph with accuracy to his throws. Overall fluid footwork and athletic actions. Aggressive to the baseball. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Tends to wrap in his load. Takes short, level path to the ball. Line drive type production in his swing. Should continue to add power as he physically matures. Ran 4.16 out of the box.

Grant Macciocchi, RHP/IF, Moeller HS, 2015

6-foot-1, 150-pound right-handed pitcher with wiry, athletic frame. Projects as a pitcher at the next level. Not overpowering, but shows the ability to throw multiple pitches with good movement for strikes. Throws with some funk through low ¾ to ¾ arm slot. Quick tempo and fills up the zone. Fastball sat 84-86 mph with good sinking action. Showed a plus breaking ball at 70-72 mph with late downward action down in the zone. Also showed a good changeup at 74 mph with similar sink as his fastball. Struck out five of six hitters in his appearance. In the field, he uses long arm action. Reached a top velocity of 78 mph across the infield. Moves well in the field with athletic actions. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a slightly open stance. Uses a leg kick in his load. Shows quickness in his hands and slight uphill path to the ball. Recorded top exit velocity of 87 mph off the tee. Drove the ball to all fields in his at bats. Ran a 4.43 out of the box.

Jarrett Edwards, RHP, St. Edward HS, 2016

5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed pitcher with athletic build. Throws through high ¾ arm slot quick arm speed. Overall slow tempo. Tends to rush at the end of his delivery. Fastball shows some run at 79-81 mph. Breaking ball sits at 64-65 mph with 11/5 break. Tends to slow down his arm speed on a 72 mph changeup.

Jeremiah Johnson, 1B/OF, Lakota West HS 2015

6-foot-1, 218-pound prospect with big, solid frame. Defensively, he shows good feel around the bag. Throws with long arm action through ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 68 mph. His best tool is his bat. Swings from the left side. Starts with balanced approach. Uses a toe tap trigger to his swing. Strong, explosive lower half. Takes uphill path to the ball. Ball jumps off his bat with pull power. Drove the ball in game play with a single, double and a well hit ball to right field that was caught.

Michael Pagano, C, Pickerington North HS, 2015

5-foot-11, 180-pound catching prospect w/solid frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 71 mph from the crouch. Tends to get tall early. Pop times ranged between 2.14 to 2.22. At the plate, he swings from the left side. Starts with a wide stance and a bit of a crouch. Doesn’t use a stride. Takes slight uphill path to the ball with backside production. Ran a 4.83 out of the box.

Mitchell Schneider, IF, Kenton Ridge, 2015

5-foot-9, 160-pound middle infielder with small, athletic frame. Shows the ability to play multiple positions in the field. Uses short arm action with high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 74 mph across the infield. Makes up for arm strength with quick release and aggressive approach to the ball. Receives the ball well. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach from the right side. Contact type hitter with short, level path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 4.7 out of the box.

Sam Hauer, C, Elder HS, 2015

5-foot-9, 175-pound catching prospect with solid frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 76 mph out of the crouch. Pop times ranged between 2.07 to 2.28. Showed quick footwork and exchange. Starts in a balanced stance from the right side. Uses a short stride with good use of his lower half. Shows quick bat speed (87 mph exit velocity off the tee). Takes slight uphill path to the ball. Showed line drive production in batting practice with pull power. Ran a 4.7 out of the box.

Zachary Santoro, IF/OF, Clinton-Massie, 2015

5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect with strong, athletic build. In the outfield, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 74 mph. Projects as a corner outfielder. Also showcased in the infield. Likely a second baseman or third baseman. Uses short arm action with top velocity of 69 mph. Needs to continue improving fluidity of his footwork. At the plate, he starts in a balanced stance from the right side. Uses a short stride and smooth load. Has some quickness in his bat (82 mph exit velocity off the tee). Line drive production with pull tendencies in his swing. Ran a 4.51 out of the box.
