Oklahoma Winter Open I.D.: RHP Analysis

On December 18th, Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma held its second event, the Oklahoma Winter Open I.D., in Yukon Oklahoma. Over 40 players from around the state from every high school class attended the event while college coaches and a pro scout took note.

Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, stats, and videos. In days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today, we will take an in-depth look at right-handed pitchers. Though many of the arms here are two-way players, they will be covered here as pitchers. Right-Handed Pitchers

Kade Chinn, Jones HS (2017)
A 6-foot-2, 190-pound durable frame with long arms. Works from a slightly up-tempo delivery, some stiffness. Uses a full arm circle, quick arm out front, and excellent pronation. Fastball sits 79-80 mph with arm side run, flashes late sink. Slider  shows consistent late depth, 68-69 mph, good command. Changeup shows some fade, 74-75 mph.

Dalton DeBaud, Yukon HS (2018)
A 6-foot-1, 185-pound strong frame. Uses a quick delivery, short arm circle with a quick change of direction in the back, high-3/4 slot, and abbreviated finish. Fastball sits 75-79 mph, flashes some arm-side run, some strikes. Curveball has some depth, 64-65 mph, uses as a chase pitch. Changeup shows some depth 68-69 mph.

Ty Dudley, Oklahoma Christian Academy (2018)
A  6-foot-1, 165-pound frame with room to fill out. Pitches from an up-tempo delivery, long arm action in the back, high-3/4 slot, balanced finish. Fastball keeps its plane, 74-77 mph,  good command.  Slider shows 11/5 shape, some late depth, 59-63 mph. Changeup has late sink and fade, 70-71 mph,  commanded.

Justin Freas, Elk City HS (2017)
A 5-foot-11, 270-pound frame. Uses a simple delivery, short arm circle, clean arm action, 3/4 slot. Fastball flashes some run, 74-76 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 62-64 mph, some depth. Changeup sits 67-68 with fade. Pounded the zone with all three pitches.

Colby Jarnagin, Enid HS (2020)
A 6-foot, 180-pound advanced frame with broad shoulders. Works from a controlled methodical delivery. Long arm action, quick change of direction in the back, high-3/4 slot, quality leg drive, balanced finish. Fastball keeps its plane, sits 74-78 mph and has touched 79-80. Slider sits 62-63 mph, flashes some depth, for strikes.

Major Kerr,  Edmond Memorial HS (2020)
A 5-foot-7, 125-pound slender build. Uses an average tempo delivery, full arm circle, loose, quick, whippy arm action from a high-3/4 slot, recoil finish. Fastball keeps its plane, flashes some run, 75-76 mph, lots of strikes. Curveball ranged 65-70 mph, 11/5 shape, rolling action. Changeup is thrown with good arm speed, 70-71 mph.

Cade Lott, McAlester HS (2020)
A 5-foot-11, 175 strong, advanced build.  Delivers that ball with two different tempos. Arm actions is long in the back with an over the top slot. Fastball sits 74-76 mph, some downhill action, flashed some command. Curveball shows 12/6 shape, some late depth, 61-63 mph. Changeup shows some fade, 64-65 mph.

Josh McNeil, Minco HS (2020)
A 5-foot-10, 155-pound lean frame. Works from a moderate tempo with good rhythm, small, tight arm circle, high-3/4 slot, above average effort, recoil finish. Fastball shows slight arm-side run, 73-76 mph. Slider has 10/4 shape and flashes depth at 63-65mph. Curveball rolls, 56-60 mph. Changeup has some fade, 65-66 mph.

Dalyn Metcalf, Elk City HS (2017)
A 5-foot-7, 160-pound frame. Pitches from an average tempo delivery with some rhythm, above average effort. Arm action is long in the back with a quick change of direction, over the top slot, fast out front. Fastball is a deceptive 76-77 mph, flashes cut at times and sink at others. Curveball has tight spin with 12/6 shape, 66-67 mph. Above average control with both pitches.

Conner Phinney, RHP, Yukon HS (2017)
A 6-foot-4, 220-pound durable build. Works from a average tempo, fluid delivery. Throws with a clean, full arm circle, 3/4 slot, loose arm, good pronation. Fastball sits 74-76 with late sink. Slider shows 10/4 shape, 68-69 mph, spins out at times. Changeup has same late sinking action as the fastball, 70-71 mph.
Throws consistent strikes with all three pitches.

Mason Skrimager, RHP, Enid HS (2019)
A 5-foot-9, 160 pound athletic frame. Uses a controlled delivery with some rhythm, full arm circle, high-3/4 slot, quality leg drive, and balanced finished. Fastball flashes late sink, sits 82-84 mph, fills up the zone. Changeup shows slight fade and sink, 68-71 mph.

Caden Young, Choctaw HS (2019)
A 6-foot, 165-pound  frame with broad shoulders and long legs. On the mound, works with good tempo and rhythm, short arm action, high-3/4 slot, finishes to the first base side. Fastball keeps its plane, 80-82 mph, for strikes. Slider sits 68-69 mph, 11/5 shape, some late depth, also for strikes. Curveball shows 12/6 shape, 62-63 mph. Changeup has some fade, 67-68 mph.
