Oneonta Teammates Have Superb Senior Seasons

The class 4A Oneonta Redskins just completed a very successful season coming up just short of a state finals appearance losing a heartbreaking 3 game series (L 3-1, W 9-4, L10-9) to eventual state runner up Hokes Bluff. Coach Brandon Moore’s Redskins finished 24-12 and were led by two seniors that culminated their high school career with superb senior seasons. Both of these seniors will be continuing their baseball careers at the collegiate level.

2018 SS/RHP Brody Moore (Auburn University signee)

Brody has signed at Auburn as an infielder but at Oneonta he made his name as a standout two way guy. As the Redskins #1 starter he logged 66 ⅓ IP only allowing 11 ER while giving up only 52 hits. He struck out 71 hitters while only walking 5 to go along with 4 shutouts including a no hitter vs. Cherokee County in the first round of the AHSAA state playoffs. He had 11 starts on the year and 10 of those starts culminated in complete games and he finished the year with a 1.16 ERA. Offensively, Brody’s numbers were just as impressive. His .542 BA shattered the single season school record (previous record was .522) and he only struck out only 4 times in his 131 at bats. For the season, he amassed 11 2B’s, 4 3B’s and 2 HR’s while driving in 30 runs and scoring 55. On April 5 in an area game vs.Leeds, Brody achieved the rare feat of hitting for the cycle. Playing SS for the Redskins, Brody only committed 5 errors in 159 chances for the year.

2018 C Jackson Devaney (Wallace State Hanceville Community College signee)

Described by his coach as, “an excellent receiver behind the plate with a plus arm and quick release, he blocks the ball extremely well with quick feet”. Jackson is a true C that projects well at the next level. He only committed 3 errors in 36 games. He threw out 8 baserunners this year but that stat is a bit deceiving because of his reputation in previous years of throwing out runners at a high percentage. There were simply not many that attempted to run vs. him. At the plate, Jackson was the Redskins second leading hitter with a .475 BA. Among his hits were 13 2B’s, 2 3B’s and 9 HR’s. Three of his HR’s came during the state playoffs. He scored 37 runs and drove in an additional 54 runs for the Redskins. He walked 14 times and struck out only 5 times in 120 AB’s.

The Oneonta High school baseball program will certainly miss these guys but look for bright days ahead for both at the collegiate level.
