Ontario Blue Jays Bratton 16u vs Fieldhouse Pirates 16u (Doubleheader)

Game 1

Mississauga – Early season double header between two very good and evenly matched clubs, with a lot of talent on both sides. The first game was won by the Ontario Blue Jays 6-2 on the strength of a strong pitching performance from Julian Parson, the 4th ranked RHP in the 2020 class, and two big innings offensively.

For the first two innings the game was a bit of a pitcher's duel, with neither side allowing a run. Fieldhouse threatened in the second when they loaded the bases with no outs but Parson was able to get a strike out and a ground ball double play to get out of it. The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when they pushed across a couple of runs.

They added to their leader two innings later, scoring four in the 5th inning. The big blow came when Gabe Monterrey hit a 2 run double to the right center gap. A double, sac fly and ground out later and the score was 6-0.

The Pirates answered with two of their own in the top of the 6th to cut the lead to four but that is all they would get. In the 7th, Parson struck out the last two hitters to cap off a fantastic outing and get his complete game.

Game 2

Mississauga – Second game of the double header that saw a bit better weather and even a little sun. As the sun came out, the bats seemed to heat up as both teams were able to put up runs in this back and forth game.

The Pirates jumped out to an early, followed by the Blue Jays mounting a mini-comeback, only for the Pirates to bust out in a big way late in the game to put it out of reach. The big story of this game was Owen Caissie, the second ranked prospect of the 2021 class. Caissie made his presence felt on both sides of the ball, having a big game at the plate and making a great defensive play in the 3rd to end the inning.

Fieldhouse jumped out to an early lead, taking advantage of early command issues from the starter Jake McAdam, and take advantage for a two spot on back to back singles.

McAdam settled down in the 2nd inning, holding the Pirates scoreless over his next three innings as he allowed the Jays to come back to take the lead.

The Blue Jays lead could have been more had it not been for the strong arm of Owen Caissie; with the Blue Jays threatening in the 3rd and one run already in, Caissie threw out a runner at home after a flyball putout to end the inning. In the 5th inning, the Pirates bats woke up after the Blue Jays made a pitching change. A walk and two straight doubles gave Fieldhouse the lead, with two more runs added later for a 6-3 lead. Caissie again was front and present here, hitting the go-ahead, two run double.

The next inning Caissie would again show his talent when he hammered a ball over the right field fence for a no doubt, three run home run to put the game out of reach.
