Ontario Insider: Tournament 12 - Ontario Black vs Quebec

Rogers Centre: Ontario Black needed a win to guarantee a spot in the semifinals at Tournament 12 Sunday morning and they did just that with a 10-3 victory over Quebec. The big inning came in the 6th as Ontario sent 12 hitter’s to the plate in route to putting up a seven spot to put the game out of reach. Seven different players contributed with an RBI and eight different players scored a run in a well balanced offensive attack by Ontario.

On the mound for Ontario was 2017 uncommitted grad Hayden Malenfant. He was able to fill the zone and keep Quebec off balanced with a tight breaking ball in his four innings of work. He ended up getting the win while striking three and giving up zero unearned runs. He was followed by Niagara commit Cam Dyck who finished the last three innings, working in similar fashion as Malenfant as he spun a tight, 12/6 curveball to compliment his fastball while striking out four.

The offense was spread out today, as Ontario took advantage of 13 walks by Quebec to go along with their 11 hits. Tyrell Hebert had two big RBI base hits up the middle while catcher and uncommitted 2017 grad Kyle Bryan had a bases loaded single that scored two. Daniel Carinci , Noah Naylor, and Kian Bukula all had key RBI base hits throughout the game, with Naylor turning on a fastball for a line drive base hit into right field and Malik Williams with a big double to get things started in the third inning.

Black finishes with a 3-1 record and advances to semifinal action on Monday. They have put up 21 runs in their four games and look to be a favourite to play in the final.
