Prep Baseball Report's PBR Border Battle event took place on Sunday August 13th, 2017. The event was held at Doc Ross field on the campus of Iowa Western Community College.in Omaha. The event featured prospects from the 2018 class who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple coaches in attendance.

The event featured players from all over the state of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and South Dakota.

CATCHER REPORTS

 

Billy Hancock C / 3B / Wahoo , NE / 2018

5-foot-11, 165 pound right handed hitting catcher ran a 7.15 60 yard sprint. Average sized frame, posted an exit velocity of 85 mph off a tee. Tall open stance, short stride triggers, compact line drive swing plane. All fields approach, line drive contact. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 2.01-2.19 range, works through the ball. Fundamentally sound blocker, avg. receiver.

 

 

 

 

Connor Philen C / 2B / Ralston, NE / 2018

5-foot-6, 165 pound catcher ran a 7.81 60 yard spring. Compact build. Square stance, stride triggers hands. Ground ball contact during round of BP. Threw to 2nd in the 2.68-2.8 range, stabs at pitchers, trouble handling velocity. Posted an exit velocity of 72 mph off a tee.


 

 

 

 

 

Nolan Opheim C / OF / Omaha Burke, NE / 2018

6-foot, 173 pound catcher ran a 6.71 60 yard sprint. Athletic frame with present strength. Tall open stance, toe tap trigger, quick line drive swing. During round of BP worked middle/away with ground ball contact. Behind the plate, threw to 2nd in the 2.16-2.4 range. OK receiver, sound blocker with side to side athleticism.


 

 

 

 

 

Zane Schmidt C / 3B / Kearney Catholic, NE / 2018

Rankings  State Rank:75 POS:7

5-foot-9, 175 pound left handed hitting catcher. #75 ranked prospect in the 2018 class for Nebraska. 7.14 runner. Above average bat from the left side. Has shown consistent improvement in numbers over the last two years. Wide square stance, toe lift triggers arm bar to smooth left handed swing. Better hitter than what he showed in round of BP.  

 

 

 

 

Owen Forck C / SS / Liberty-Wentzville, MO / 2018

Rankings  State Rank:114 POS:19

6-foot-2, 180 pound catcher ran a 7.5 60 yard sprint. Ranked #114 prospects in the Missouri 2018 class. Crouched square stance, short stride triggles uphill swing path with long finish. Posted an exit velocity of 85 mph off a tee. Middle approach, line drive contact. Behind the plate, low narrow set up, athletic actions, works through throws, threw to 2nd in the 2.03-2.14 range with carry.


 

 

 

 

 

Connor Hughes C / 1B / Olathe North, KS / 2018

Rankings  State Rank:49 POS:8

5-foot-11, 190 pound catcher ran a 7.64 60 yard sprint. Strong build with present strength in lower half. #8 ranked catcher in the 2018 class for Kansas. Square stance at the plate, rthym and timing in long flat barrel path. Pull Side approach, consistently found the barrel for hard contact during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 83 mph off a tee. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 2.1-2.20 range, clean transfers, high ¾ release. Playable actions for first base, hands and feet work in sync.
