Scouting Report

9/13/19

+ RHP Hunter Day (Bloomington Jefferson HS, MN), a former PBR Future Games standout, showcased a highly-intriguing three-pitch mix that should allow him to continue as a starter at the next level. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound right-hander has a wiry-athletic frame with some natural strength, and worked his fastball at 85-87 for the early part of an elongated start before dipping slightly as he tired early on in the fall. He features a compact, uptempo delivery with a whippy arm stroke that delivers out of a ¾ slot that was inconsistent at times. The changeup was thrown with fastball hand speed at 77-81 with sinking action. He demonstrated feel for a slider that reached as high as 78mph, but varied anywhere from 73-77, and was thrown for strikes. Facing a deep Team Indiana lineup for the NorthStar squad, Day was able to battle out of some tough spots, and showcased the ability to get swings and misses as well as strikeouts with runners on base. Given his quick, whippy arm, athletic frame, and shorter stride there is a good chance that Day will make a considerable velocity jump in the future.

7/25/19

Uncommitted, 6-foot-2, 170- pound RHP, shows a lanky frame with room to fill out as he matures. The righty was counter part to Connor Griffiths in a pitcher’s duel between Hitters and North Star Navy. Came out on the short end, but still pitched a great game for North Star. Threw six innings of great baseball. Showed a trio of a fastball, curveball, and changeup. On the night the fastball sat at 83-85 mph and topping out at 86 mph, curveball at 74-75 mph, and changeup at 79 mph. Has long loose arm action, at an arm slot that varies between a high ¾ and ¾ arm slot, has quick arm speed, was able to show control of all his pitches against Hitters. Was able to force weak contact on most balls put in play. Final line: 6IP, 3H, 3K, 2BB

6/17/19

6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed pitcher. #8 ranked player in MN 2020 class. Short turn into simple delivery. Clean compact arm action. Landing upright with avg. extension to plate. Fastball was 85-86 mph with late run and sink action. Has feel for tight spinning breaking ball with 11/5 shape and depth. Firm power changeup with late action in bottom of zone for strikes.

3/17/19

6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed pitcher.  2018 Future Games Participant and 8th ranked player in MN 2020 class.  Athletic mound presence.  Simple and repeats delivery well.  Lands open down mound.  Arm is clean and quick from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has life with cut action at 87-89 mph.  Curveball has 10/4 break with good shape and above average spin for strikes at 78-80 mph.  Change-up is 82-84 mph with hard late run and sink.  Strong follow and top uncommitted arm in 2020 class

2018 PBR Future Games- Bulldog mentality on the mound working quickly and coming at hitters from a high ¾ slot. The FB sat consistent at 85-86 with late life. The BB had good 10-4 shape; covering two planes and came in consistently firm at 74 mph. Day’s power CH was also featured at 79-80 with short, hard arm side cutting movement.

7/8/18- 6-foot-2, 165-pound, athletically-built right-handed pitcher. Highly-athletic, repeatable delivery, worked on-line and with rhythm. Short, compact, clean arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 83-84 mph throughout, worked mostly straight, cutting action at times. Threw his breaking ball often and in any count. Swing-and-miss offering with above-average feel, tight, late break, 72-75 mph. Went to his changeup only a few times, sat 76-77 mph. Final Line: 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 8 K, 0 BB. High-follow 2020 pitcher with more in the tank.

3/17/18- 6-foot-2, 163-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Day’s short, quick arm makes the ball look like its gets on the plate quicker than the radar gun may read. He is aggressive down the mound which also helps the fastball play up even harder. The pitch cut, somewhat, at 82-84, and he countered it with an advanced, power-changeup that was thrown with fastball hand speed and featured late sinking action at 78-79. He also featured a tighter slider at 74-75 with short break that has a chance to be an above average pitch moving forward. Standing 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, Day has wiry strength on an athletic frame, and should continue to fill out in the future. Day’s velocity will likely be up even higher this summer as his arm continues to get into shape throughout the spring. 7.12 runner with 80 mph exit velocity and 86 mph arm from outfield. Open stance, leg kick trigger, some length to contact, athletic in box with hard contact to middle of field. Aggressive routes in field, above avg. arm, plays through ball, raw with 2 hands to field, accurate with carry to target.

7/31/17- 6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; lean athletic build, clean compact arm action, lands upright and falls down mound occasionally. Fastball was 79-82 mph with riding life and late run into RHH. Has feel for 11/5 curveball, solid shape, with late short break. 4.52 home-to-first time. Tall stance, leg kick trigger, uphill path with length to contact, solid contact to pull side gap, 81 mph exit velocity. Solid athlete, raw fielding mechanics, quick release, avg. accuracy and carry to target, 81 mph arm from outfield.
