By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The PBR Metro Tournament wrapped up over the week end with the semi-finals being played Friday night and the Championship being played Saturday at 6:00 PM.

The tournament featured 9 teams from 4 different classifications, and some of the top prospects the state has to offer. We were very happy with the first year event and have plans to expand the tournament in 2018.

Semi-Finals

Cabot 13 vs Russellville 8

Cabot defeated Russellville 13-8 in a high scoring affair which featured a combination of 8 pitchers. Teams traded runs in the first.

Russellville took advantage of free passes and defensive mistakes by Russellville to score 4 in the 2nd, then returned the favor in the bottom of the 2nd to leave the game tied 5-5 after 2 innings of play.

Both teams traded runs in the 3rd leaving the game tied 6-6.  Both teams held in the 4th.

In the top of the 5th Russellville scored 2 runs to take an 8-6 lead, in the bottom of the 5th Cabot answered with 3 of their own. Cabot tacked on 4 more runs in the 6th to put the game firmly out of reach, at 13-8.

2020 OF Houston King and 2017 MIF Blake McCutchen both had multi-hit games. McCutchen went 2 for four with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored while King was 3 for 4 with a run scored.

On the mound 2018 RHP Caleb Wilson picked up the win throwing 2 innings allowing just 1 earned run while striking out 2. 2017 RHP Michael Shepard impressed in his 1 2/3 innings to close out the game as he struck out 3.

Searcy 7 vs Maumelle 2

Searcy defeated Maumelle 7-2 in the second semi-final game.

Searcy took advantage of a big 4th inning scoring 5 runs taking advantage of some walks and errors.

This big inning was enough as the Lions pitching staff had an efficient night. Combining to pitch 7 innings allowing just 3 hits and no earned runs. 2017 RHP Garrett Price pitched 4 innings with 1 strike. He was relieved by 2017 LHP Flave Carpenter which struck out 4 in 2 innings of work, allowing no hits. 2017 Luke Wolfe pitched a solid 7th inning closing out the contest.
