PBR Michigan Spotlight Game: (D-1) #9 Brother Rice vs Warren De La Salle

Brother Rice battled Warren De La Salle in the Catholic League A-B division semifinal game with the winner advancing to the league title game played in Comerica Park.

Brother Rice sent their All American ace Karl Kauffman to the mound to lead them against the strong De La Salle offense. Kauffman was usual dominant self, rolling through the first two innings without allowing a hit.

In the bottom of the second inning Northern Kentucky commit Preston Pilat drew a leadoff walk, later stealing second base. 2017 Christian Faust singled to right field scoring Pilat giving Rice an early 1-0 lead.

During the bottom of the 3rd inning Rice’s offense erupted.

2017 Alex Kuster led off the inning with a free pass, followed by an opposite field double by 2018 Reese Trahey scoring Kuster. Kauffman singled to right scoring Trahey.

De La Salle attempted to pickoff Kauffman with an errant throw that allowed him to advance to third, then later scored on a wild pitch.

The hot bats of Rice continued to swing in the 4th inning adding to their total.

2016 Jeff Timko singled to right and scored on Kuster’s double. 2019 Tito Flores drove in Kuster with an RBI single giving Rice a 5-0 lead.

Coming to bat with 2 outs in the fifth inning 2018 JD Allen smashed a double to the leftfield fence and scored on an RBI single to right by Faust.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Kuster led off the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a ground out by Trahey. Flores singled to left, followed by back to back walks to Pilat and 2018 Caleb Jackson that scored Kuster.

Brother Rice moves on to defend their Catholic League A-B division championship at Comerica Park.
