PBR Michigan Spotlight Games: D2 Quarterfinal - Linden vs Gaylord

Linden and Gaylord were locked into a pitching duel through seven innings, but a two-run double by 2016 1B Chris Kitch in the eighth sent Linden to the Division 2 semifinals with a 2-0 victory.

Prior to Kitch’s double, scoring chances for both teams were few and far between as both starters, 2017 RHP Jack Shore for Linden and 2016 RHP Robbie Hansen for Gaylord, were locked in. Through six innings, Shore had a one-hitter going, striking out six, while Hansen allowed just two Linden runners to reach scoring position through seven innings.

In the bottom half of the seventh inning, Gaylord finally got to Shore and found the game winning run just 90 feet away. Gaylord started the inning with back-to-back singles by Hansen and 2016 C Joseph Miller and loaded the bases two batters later following a fly ball, error and an intentional walk. Shore was able to escape the jam, getting a force out at home thanks to a great back-handed pick by 2017 C Jamon Link and a groundout to second to end the inning.

Linden capitalized on the momentum in the top half of the eighth inning as 2017 OF Ryker Rivera led off the inning with a bunt single. Rivera was moved over to second with a sacrifice bunt with the next batter, and Gaylord opted to intentionally walk the next batter to put the double play in order. Kitch came to the plate next and hit delivered the game-winning hit.

Shore came back out for the eighth to finish the game and worked around a pair of walks to start the inning, striking out the final two batters of the game, to secure the win.

With the win, Linden advances to Thursday’s Division 2 semifinal against Dearborn Divine Child. Game time is set for 11:30 AM at Michigan State University.
