The PBR Midwest ProCase was an opportunity for the top prospects in the 2021 draft class; including some select Juco and underclass players as well to showcase themselves to multiple MLB organizations in attendance. Scouts across the country are geared into the 2021 class and this event featured many of the top potential draft prospects in the Midwest. 

It was a star-studded roster with a plethora of high-end Division 1 and Juco commits from Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Nebraska & Wisconsin. Surveying the roster- the Who's Who of midwest prospects committed to high-end institutions across the country (North Carolina, Creighton, Minnesota, Texas Christian, Wichita State, Iowa, Michigan, Oregon, Nebraska, Arizona....to name a few).

PBR Midwest Procase evals

Ben Tallman, OF/C, NIACC
Physical 6-foot, 200-pound outfielder and catcher. The right-handed hitter possesses above-average bat speed with a level line-drive swing through the zone. Good extension and solid finish, showing the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Above-average arm strength behind the plate, with 89 mph throw downs to second yielding pop times between 1.93-2.06 sec. Can also play corner outfield, covers ground well with carry behind 93 mph arm strength. 6.97 60-yard dash.

 

Thomas Gross, RHP, NIACC 
The freshman RHP has a projectable, athletic 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame on the mound. Gross works from a controlled rocker-step delivery, landing square to home with some explosiveness and effort in his release. Shows solid arm speed from a long ¾ arm slot. Gross’ fastball displays arm-side run in the 93-95 mph range with spin averaging 2401 rpm. His slider is currently his best off-speed pitch, featuring tight cut action with a late 10/4 break and spin averaging 2527 rpm. Also throws a solid 11/5 curveball with late break at 2432 rpm while still developing some feel. His changeup displays good down action and is thrown firm at 87-88 mph with fastball arm speed.


Robert Hogan, RHP/INF, NIACC 
Athletic 6-foot, 195-pound two-way with tons of upside. Arizona commit. On the mound, Hogan works from a balanced rocker-step delivery with high effort and a long high-¾ arm action that he gets out front. Displays electric arm speed. Fastball showed some arm-side life, jumping on hitters at 92-94 mph with spin averaging 2816 rpm. Curveball shows above average 11/5 spin and depth that can be thrown in any count, sitting 75-79 mph and spin averaging 3004 rpm. Slider is quick with late break and small 10/4 cut action averaging spin at 3157 rpm. His changeup shows late fade action down in the zone, thrown firm at 86-87 mph. In the field, displays above average tools in all facets. Ran a 6.67 second 60-yard dash while recording a 96 mph exit-velocity off the tee. Level line-drive swing, gets extension through swing with the ability to use all fields.


Ethan Voss, RHP, Burnsville, 2021
Long-limbed, high-waisted 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame on the mound. Arizona commit. The projectable right-handed pitcher works from an up-tempo delivery with square shoulders, landing in-line with solid extension to home plate. Throws from a long high-¾ arm slot with good arm speed. Fastball sat 92-93 mph topping out at 95 mph with spin averaging 2088 rpm. Sharp 10/4 slider with depth thrown 77-79 mph, spinning at 2240 rpm. Low-spinning changeup shows good fade action, kept low in the zone at 83-84 mph. Has continued to make strides in velocity with added strength and maturity.


Jackson Wentworth, RHP, Waukee, 2021
Wide-shouldered, athletic 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame on the mound. Kansas State commit. The right-handed pitcher has a balanced, repeatable delivery that works downhill with intent. Throws from a continuous, clean high-¾ arm action with solid arm speed. Displays a legit three-pitch mix. Fastball sat 93-94 mph spinning at 2455 rpm, pounds the zone for strikes. Throws a true 12/6 curveball at 73-75 mph with tight spin and depth averaging 2469 rpm. Changeup features good fade and sink action in the lower half of the zone, 80-81 mph.


Seth Clausen, RHP, Pleasant Valley, 2021
Strong 6-foot, 190-pound frame on the mound. Minnesota commit. Clausen came out firing from a short rocker-step delivery with compact mechanics, landing slightly open with good extension towards home. Compact high-¾ arm action with quickness and some effort in his release. Fastball featured late life at 90-93 mph, spun 2262 rpm low in the zone. Curveball sat 82-84 mph with above-average depth and 11/5 break, spun at 2635 rpm. Changeup thrown with fastball arm-speed and solid down action in the zone, 84-86 mph.


Justin Hackett, RHP, Winterset, 2022
Athletic, projectable 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. TCU commit. The wide-shouldered right-handed pitcher delivers from a balance tempo, working over the top with aggressiveness and strength in his lower half. Extension out front with long, clean high-¾ arm action featuring some shoulder tilt and solid arm speed. Fastball sat 91-92 mph, topping at 93 mph, on a downward plane through the zone with riding life. Fastball averaged spin of 2242 rpm. Sharp 12/6 hammer breaking ball with solid depth and feel at 76-77 mph, spinning at 2112 rpm. Changeup featured varying action with feel around the zone, 84-86 mph.


Austin Henry, RHP, Dell Rapids, 2022
Long-limbed, high-waisted 6-foot-5, 205-pound frame on the mound. Wichita State commit. The projectable right-handed pitcher works from a feel-tempo delivery out of the stretch landing in-line with home plate and solid extension. Throws from a long, clean arm action with shoulder tilt and high-¾ release. Solid arm speed. Fastball sat 91-92 mph with spin averaging 2413 rpm. Sharp 12/6 curveball with depth thrown 73-76 mph, spinning at an impressive 3009 rpm. Changeup shows late fade action with above-average life, kept low in the zone at 80-83 mph. Tunnels changeup well with fastball.


Joe Husak, RHP, North Polk, 2021
Athletic 6-foot, 170-pound build on the mound. South Dakota State commit. The right-handed pitcher has a compact delivery with a quick tempo and athletic finish. Clean, high-¾ arm action with arm speed and intent down the mound. Fastball sat 91-92 mph with heavy life to his arm-side, spinning at 2273 rpm. Small 11/5 curveball has tight, late break at 81-83 mph, thrown hard with spin averaging 2309 rpm. Low-spinning changeup features solid arm-side run and developing feel around the zone, thrown firm at 86-87 mph.


Jake Goble, RHP/1B, Rapid City St. Thomas More, 2021
Strong, wide-shouldered 6-foot-5, 225-pound two-way player. South Dakota State commit. On the mound, Goble works from a controlled rocker-step delivery with balance throughout, landing square to home. Short, quick arm action from a high-¾ release and low effort. Fastball sat 88-91 mph for strikes on a downward plane, spin averaging 2538 rpm. Curveball shows tight 11/5 break with depth at 78-79 mph, spin averaging 2568 rpm. Changeup has solid arm-side fade, 84-86 mph, thrown with fastball arm speed. In the field, Goble displays above average strength in his barrel, producing consistent 104 mph exit-velocities from a tee. Produced the top-performing average hand speed of 26.38 mph via Blast Motion, while routinely averaging bat speeds of 75.41 mph. At the plate, simple setup with quiet actions and short stride. Line-drive swing with power to the gaps, barreling balls to all fields during BP. Above-average runner for size, 6.88 second 60-yard dash.


Tucker Novotny, LHP, Park, 2021
Long-limbed, physical 6-foot-5, 230-pound build on the mound. Minnesota commit. The projectable left-handed pitcher delivers from a controlled rocker-step with feel and low effort. Long, whippy arm action with a ¾ arm slot and extension in his release. Fastball sat 87-91 mph with arm-side run with command to both sides of the plate, spinning at 2065 rpm. Sweeping curveball at 76-78 mph features late 2/8 break with above average control, averaging spin at 2375 rpm. Changeup shows solid down action low in the zone at 79-80 mph.


Logan Runde, RHP, Dubuque Hempstead, 2021
Physical 6-foot-2, 220-pounds on the mound. Iowa Western CC commit. The right-handed pitcher showcases a clean, repeatable delivery with balance over the mound landing square to home. Throws from a clean, low effort ¾ arm slot. Displays consistent command of his fastball at 88-91 mph with arm-side run, averaging spin of 2145 rpm. Slider features tight 10/4 cut action with depth and solid feel, 79-80 mph, spinning at 2336 rpm. Curveball has above average depth, 11/5 break and landed for consistent strikes at 78-80 mph, avg. spin of 2145 rpm. Changeup thrown firm with late down action in the lower half of the zone, 86-87 mph.


Ben Taxdahl, RHP, St. Thomas Academy, 2021
Athletic 6-foot-1, 200-pound build. Wichita State commit. The right-handed pitcher works from the stretch with a controlled tempo and aggressive delivery. Repeats well, swinging down the mound while landing square to home with an upright finish. Long to short ¾ arm action with effort in his release. Fastball sat 89-91 mph, showing arm-side run and consistent command of the zone, averaging spin of 2232 rpm. Slider has tight 11/5 slurve action, with good spin averaging 2674 rpm and developing feel. Has made significant strides in mechanics and velocity over the past year.


Nicholas Argento, RHP, Wayzata, 2021
Long-limbed, high-waisted 6-foot-5, 200-pound build on the mound. North Carolina commit. The projectable right-handed pitcher has a simple, clean delivery with an in-line finish and extension out front. Throws from a long ¾ arm action with good arm speed. Fastball sat 87-90 mph with heavy, sink action and averaging spin of 2256 rpm. Slider has 10/4 cut action and some depth, 80-81 mph, avg. spin of 2124 rpm. Changeup has fade and sink action to his arm-side, thrown firm at 82-85 mph. 


Ben Ayala, RHP, Elkhorn, 2022
Lean, athletic 6-foot-2, 185-pound build. Creighton commit. The right-handed pitcher shows projectability with a high-waisted frame. Rocker-step delivery with a controlled tempo, reaching a tall balance point with a hip coil and inline stride. Aggressive down mound with some effort and athletic finish. Long ¾ arm action. Shows good arm speed. Worked his fastball 87-90 mph with late life to his arm-side, averaging spin of 1943 rpm. Slider has small cut action, 79-82 mph, avg. spin of 2217 rpm. Curveball has a big 11/5 shape with some depth, 71-76 mph, developing feel and average spin of 2110 rpm. Low-spinning changeup kept low in the zone at 80-83 mph for strikes.


Kieran Bailey, LHP, Des Moines Roosevelt, 2021
Athletic, physical 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame on the mound. Kirkwood CC commit. The left-handed pitcher has an uptempo rocker-step delivery, working down the mound with intent, uphill shoulders and an open finish. Quick high-¾ arm action, showcasing good arm speed. Fastball sat 88-90 mph with arm-side life, spinning at 1912 rpm. Compliments his fastball with a big 1/7 curveball with some depth and developing control/feel at 70-72 mph, average spin of 2082 rpm.


Joshua Kingery, LHP/OF, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, 2021
Compact, athletic 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame. Uncommitted. The left-handed pitcher works from a controlled, smooth tempo with balance through his delivery. Works quick, landing slightly closed and throwing across his body. Quick, clean high-¾ arm action. Fastball sat 87-90 mph with late arm-side life, spinning at 1943 rpm. Curveball sat 71-76 mph with sharp 2/8 break and small shape, averaging spin of 1878 rpm. Low-spin changeup showed heavy run and sink, 80-82 mph. Offensively, Kingery has a quick line-drive swing with above average hand speed of 26.35 mph via Blast Motion. Works down to contact generating some backspin with hard line-drives to his mid/pull side, registering a 98 mph exit velocity. In the outfield, has athletic, above average footwork and hands to field, making 96 mph throws with carry and accuracy. Ran a 6.75 60-yard dash.


Blake Larson, LHP/OF, Dowling Catholic, 2024
Long-limbed, lean 6-foot-2, 160-pound build on the mound. TCU commit. The projectable left-handed pitcher delivers from a rocker-step with rhythm that gets out front. Long, whippy arm action with a high-¾ arm slot. Fastball sat 88-90 mph with solid, late life to his arm-side and control, spinning at 2061 rpm. Big, high-spin curveball showing 1/7 break at 72-73 mph, avg. 2437 rpm. Changeup shows solid late down action low in the zone at 79-81 mph. Offensively, Larson uses his lower half and body well, showcasing a quick line-drive swing from the left side, barreling balls throughout his round of BP. 92 mph exit velocity. In the outfield, a fluid fielder that plays through the ball making 92 mph throws with carry and accuracy. Ran a 7.57 60-yard dash.


Justin Loer, LHP, Lakeville South, 2021
Long-limbed, high-waisted 6-foot-5, 190-pound frame on the mound. Xavier commit. The projectable left-handed pitcher works from a fluid tempo delivery, working across his body, landing in-line with home plate and solid extension out front. Throws from a long, clean arm action and ¾ release. Solid arm speed. Fastball sat 87-89 mph with late life, spin averaging 2289 rpm. Sharp 2/8 slider with cut and depth thrown 80-81 mph, spinning at 2331 rpm. 1/7 curveball with 1/7 break, flashes of depth 73-75 mph. Changeup shows late fade and sink action with above-average life, kept low in the zone at 81-82 mph. Tunnels changeup well with fastball.


Logan Olson, LHP, Academy of Holy Angels, 2022
Long-limbed, high-waisted 6-foot-4, 170-pound frame on the mound. Oregon commit. The projectable left-handed pitcher works from an up-tempo delivery with easy effort down the mound, and solid extension out front. Throws from a long, clean arm action and high-¾ release. Good arm speed. Fastball sat 86-89 mph with arm-side run in the zone, spin averaging 1965 rpm. Big 1/7 curveball with tight spin and solid feel thrown 72-75 mph, spinning at 2040 rpm. Changeup shows late fade action, kept low in the zone at 80-82 mph. 


Easton Johnson, RHP, Gilbert, 2021
Physical, high-waisted 6-foot-4, 215-pounds on the mound. Creighton commit. The right-handed pitcher showcases a quick rocker-step delivery with swinging down the mound landing square to home. Throws from a long to short ¾ arm slot. Fastball at 86-88 mph with run and sink showing above average life, averaging spin of 1982 rpm. Slider features tight 10/4 cut action with depth, 72-74 mph, spinning at 2006 rpm. Changeup thrown firm with late down action in the lower half of the zone, 73-76 mph.


Joe Simpson, OF/RHP, Clinton, 2021
Athletic 6-foot-3, 195-pound build. Kirkwood CC commit. Simpson showcased a level swing plane from the right-side of the plate with above-average bat speed, posting an exit velocity of 106 mph. Mid/pull approach with hard line-drives off the bat during BP. Raw mechanically at times but makes up for it with his natural athleticism. In the outfield, good footwork and reliable glove making online 94 mph throws with carry and accuracy. 6.62 runner in the 60. On the mound, simple low-effort delivery out of the stretch that repeats well. Clean, compact arm action from a high-¾ release slot. Fastball shows arm-side run and sink at 86-89 mph, spinning at 2126 rpm. Slider has small 11/5 cut action with flashes of depth, 75-77 mph spun at 2169 rpm. Deceptive changeup has late diving action, 78-80 mph. 


Jackson Nove, LHP, Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2021
Long-limbed, high-waisted 6-foot-5, 195-pound frame on the mound. Kentucky commit. The projectable left-handed pitcher works from a fluid tempo, downhill delivery, landing in-line with home plate and extension out front. Throws from a long, clean arm action and ¾ release. Good arm speed. Fastball sat 86-88 mph with late tail life, spin averaging 2424 rpm. Smaller 2/8 breaking ball with depth and feel thrown 74-75 mph, spinning at 2421 rpm. Firm changeup shows late fade and sink action with above-average life, kept low in the zone at 80-81 mph. 


Tommy Specht, OF, Dubuque Wahlert, 2021
Athletic, projectable 6-foot-3, 195-pound outfielder. Kentucky commit. The left-handed hitter shows easy, loose actions in the box with a smooth line-drive swing through the zone. Consistent barrels to the middle of the field. 93 mph exit velocity with good hand speed. In the outfield, moves athletically with a clean glove and momentum through throws. 99 mph arm strength with solid carry and accuracy. Above-average 6.44 runner in the 60.

 

Hayden Lewis, OF, Yutan, 2022
Athletic, strong 6-foot-1, 200-pounds. Nebraska commit. The left-handed hitter sets up in a slightly open stance with rhythm in his hands. Aggressive, level line-drive swing with a mid/pull approach. 97 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the outfield, active footwork with clean glove, accurate 91 mph arm strength with carry from a high-¾ arm slot. Projects as a corner outfielder. 6.98 runner in the 60. 


Sam Petersen, OF/INF, Ballard, 2021
Athletic 6-foot, 180-pounds right-handed hitting infielder. Iowa commit. At the plate, quiet actions with quick leg lift load and stride. Solid weight transfer with above average bat speed and extension through the zone. Level line-drive swing, driving balls to all fields with some feel for the barrel. 102 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the outfield, quick footwork and confident fielder. Throws from a long high-¾ arm slot with 91 mph arm strength. In the infield, active feet with lateral range, soft hands, and clean exchanges. 86 mph throws with accuracy across the diamond. Above-average 6.56 60-yard dash.



Brady Christensen, OF/INF, Elkhorn South, 2021
Physical, projectable 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame. Iowa Western CC commit. The left-handed hitter has a balanced stance with rhythm throughout his swing. Fluid leg kick load and with smooth level swing plane. Above average feel for hands showing the ability to use all fields with power to the gaps. 93 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the outfield, confident actions, fielding to the side of his body with momentum through his throws. 88 mph arm strength with online accuracy and carry to home. At first base, soft hands and glove with clean exchanges. 83 mph throws across the diamond. Ran a 6.91 60-yard dash.


Sam Harris, OF, Urbandale, 2023
Physical, projectable 6-foot-4, 210-pounds. Duke commit. The left-handed hitter sets up in a quiet balanced stance before exploding through the zone with high-level bat speed. Level swing plane with hard-line drives and pull side pop. Average hand speed of 26.10 mph and bat speed of 77.45 mph, reaching a max of 82.40 mph via Blast Motion. Routinely put up 106 mph exit velocities from the tee, showing above average strength in his barrel. In the outfield, clean glove with active footwork, fielding to the side of his body. 88 mph throws with some carry to home from a short high-¾ arm action. At first base, clean exchanges with lateral range around the bag, 85 mph arm strength across the diamond. 7.16 runner in the 60.


Max Petersen, INF, Lincoln Southwest, 2021
Lean, athletic 6-foot-1, 180-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder. Nebraska commit. At the plate, balanced wide setup with some rhythm in his hands and a controlled, quiet load. Uphill swing plane through the zone, gap to gap approach. 87 mph exit velocity off the tee. Above average hands and footwork in the middle infield, making 89 mph throws across the diamond with carry and accuracy from a quick high-¾ arm slot. Ran a 7.05 60-yard dash.


Mitch Wood, INF, Ottumwa, 2021
Athletic 6-foot-2, 190-pound infielder. Iowa commit. The right-handed hitter has a quiet setup with a repeatable body load into an aggressive, uphill swing. Creates bat speed through the zone, generating some lift to the gaps. 92 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the infield, displays confident fielding actions with soft hands and clean exchanges making 88 mph throws across the diamond from a short high-¾ arm slot. Ran a 7.27 60-yard dash.


Liam Moreno, INF, Sun Prairie, 2021
Compact, athletic 5-foot-9, 195-pound build. Missouri State commit. The right-handed hitting infielder sets up in a quiet, slightly open stance with fluid actions through his load and stride. Show advanced feel for the barrel, using a compact level line-drive swing to drive the ball to all fields. 99 mph exit velocity, showing solid hand/bat speed. Defensively, clean fielding actions with hands that work out front and smooth exchanges. 87 mph arm strength across the infield from a short high-¾ arm action. Above average 6.49 sec runner in the 60. 


Sean Gamble, INF, Dowling Catholic, 2025
Developing, athletic 6-foot, 160-pound infielder. Uncommitted. The young left-handed hitter shows an advanced approach at the plate with feel for the barrel and gap to gap power. Flashes some bat speed through the zone with a quick, level swing plane. Hard line-drives and consistent barrels during BP. 91 mph exit velocity from the tee. In the infield, shows advanced footwork and hands, working around and through the ball with a clean glove. 84 mph arm strength across the infield from a quick high-¾ arm action. Ran a 7.01 60-yard dash.


Alex Ritzer, INF, Stillwater, 2021
Athletic 5-foot-11, 185-pound middle infielder. North Carolina commit. The left-handed hitter sets up in a narrow stance with a hand load and short stride into a strong, repeatable line-drive swing. Uses his lower half well showing some ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. 88 mph exit velocity off the tee. In the infield, athletic actions with sure hands and clean transfers, showing the ability to throw on the run from multiple arm angles with lateral range. 6.79 runner in the 60.

 

Gabe Swansen, INF, Johnston, 2021
Physical 5-foot-11, 205-pound infielder. Nebraska commit. The right-handed hitter sets up in an open, narrow stance using a controlled load and body coil. Quick, aggressive line-drive swing generating some loft and power to his mid/pull side. 97 mph exit velocity from the tee. In the infield, shows athletic actions with reliable hands and feet that work through his throws. Longer release at times. 82 mph arm strength across the diamond from a long high-¾ arm slot. Ran a 7.05 60-yard dash.


Jared Everson, INF, La Crosse Aquinas, 2021
Strong, athletic 6-foot-3, 205-pound corner infielder. Minnesota commit. The left-handed hitter sets up in a balanced, rhythmic stance with a clean leg lift and hand load. Level line-drive swing with power to mid/pull side and extension through the zone. 99 mph exit velocity from the tee. Led all ProCase participants with an average bat speed of 77.81 mph via Blast Motion. At first base, clean glove and exchange around the bag with athletic footwork. 79 mph arm strength from a high-¾ arm slot. 7.25 runner in the 60.


Gehrig Christensen, C, Urbandale, 2021
Athletic, lean 6-foot-1, 180-pound catcher. Iowa commit. The left-handed hitter has an open, relaxed setup with a clean, line-drive swing plane. Shows good body control with feel for the barrel. Gap to gap approach with hard line-drives in BP. 96 mph exit velocity from the tee. Behind the plate, displays above-average receiving skills and arm strength. Quick footwork and clean exchanges. 84 mph arm strength with solid carry. 2.00-2.15 pop times. 6.99 runner in the 60.


Reese Moore, C, Forest City, 2022
Strong 6-foot, 210-pound catcher. Iowa commit. The left-handed hitter sets up in a wide, relaxed stance. Uphill swing plane with back foot finish. Drives through the ball with projectable power to the gaps. 94 mph exit velocity from the tee. Behind the plate, flexible with good receiving ability. Quick feet with longer high-¾ arm action. 79 mph arm strength with accuracy. 2.14-2.25 pop times. 6.97 sec 60-yard dash.


Spencer Campidilli, C, Johnston, 2022
Strong, physical 5-foot-11, 200-pound catcher. Uncommitted. The right-handed hitter has a balanced, square stance with a controlled load and short stride. Aggressive level bat path, showing some bat speed. Ability to drive the ball to the gaps and the opposite field. 93 mph exit velocity from the tee. Behind the plate, quick feet and releases with a clean exchange. 78 mph arm strength from a quick high-¾ release. 1.98-2.02 pop times with accuracy to the bag. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash.


Joe Longo, C, Academy of Holy Angels, 2021
Physical 6-foot-1, 215-pound catcher. Michigan commit. The right-handed hitter displays a balanced, square setup with rhythm. Quick line-drive swing, generating some lift and making consistent hard contact to all fields.
