PBR New York sat down with Andy Karlan over that past week for a little question and answer session.

Position: Catcher

PBR: What has been your best pop time and where? 

Karlan: My best pop time was at the Tri-State Arsenal 17uShowcase 1 tryout, 1.81 three times November 2013.

At showcase events:
I threw 1.9 and 85 mph (my best official mph) at an Under Armour event in the winter and had a 1.9 pop time at the Perfect Game National Main event 12/29/13 (a college coach had me at 1.9 during a game last weekend July 2014)

PBR: What was your best 60 time and where?

Karlan: My best 60 time was at the Area Code tryouts, an MLB scout told me I ran a 7.02 on June 10^th, 2014

PBR: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player? 

Karlan: Strengths: I am a leader by example and vocally. I try my hardest every game. I hustle all the time. I think hitting is one of my strengths and I have a pretty good arm.

Weakness: I demand a lot of myself and am probably too hard on myself. I chase a high fastball on occasion and am working on that

PBR: Are you excited about coming to PBR NY top prospect games?

Karlan: I am looking forward to playing with and against top players in NY State

PBR: Who do you design your game after?

Karlan: I have been told I catch and play like Buster Posey. I hope I become half as good a player. A scout said I swing like Dustin Pedroia, he gets the most out of every swing.

Buzz On Karlan
Karlan has a strong athletic frame and is a next level Catcher with a plus arm and signs of plus power. He is coming to our Top Prospect Games Aug 16th, at St. Bonaventure University and should catch the eye of all the coaches attending. He plays very athletic and shows that by his 60 yard time at 7.02, which for his position is very solid. He is a student of the game and works hard on his craft, in my talks with him I can tell he loves the game. We are excite to see him in Aug and follow his development.
