PBR New England Spotlight Game: Lincoln-Sudbury vs Waltham

It was a rough for the Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors, as they were crushed by the Waltham Hawks 10-2.

The Warriors got off on the right foot after senior center fielder Chris Galland was hit by a pitch and scored on a triple by classmate and shortstop Scott Holzwasser (Northeastern). Senior third baseman Jonathan Rowe followed with a groundout, scoring Holzwasser giving the visiting team a 2-0 lead.

Waltham would battle back in the 3rd inning, when with two outs, senior second baseman Aaron Jammal singled to center. Senior centerfielder Matt Sweet singled to left prior to the first of Devllin’s doubles, scoring two and tying the game.

Devllin would score a batter later after senior third baseman Sean Turpin reached on an error, giving Waltham the 3-2 lead.

Meanwhile, Saulnier settled down considerably after the 1st inning, allowing just three base runners from innings 2-5.

The Hawks broke it open with four runs in the 5th innings against reliever Rowe.

Junior DH Darren Battista started things off with a leadoff single, Jammal reached on an error and Sweet walked to load the bases. After a flyout by Devllin, Turpin singled home both Battista and Jammal, giving the Hawks a 5-2 advantage.

A walk would reload the bases for senior first baseman Jordan Pantoja. The left-hander delivered a two run single of his own, extending the lead to 7-2 after the 5th.

Galland came on to pitch for the 6th for Lincoln-Sudbury and with one out, he hit Battista with an inside fastball.

An out later, Sweet was hit in almost the same spot, setting the stage for Devllin’s second two-run double of the day, to give the Hawks a 9-2 lead. After stealing third, Devllin would wind up scoring on an errant throw by the catcher, capping the scoring at 10-2.

Senior RHP Max Penton came on for a scoreless 7th inning and Waltham completed a nice victory over the Warriors.

On the day, senior right fielder Brendan Devllin had three hits, including a pair of two-run doubles while junior RHP Troy Saulnier tossed six innings of two run ball with five strikeouts for the victory. Sophomore RHP Rory Bordiuk took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) with four strikeouts over four innings of work.
