PBR OK's Top Moments in 2022: Parker Coil Walk-off

Scott Hood
OK/MO/KS/ARK Assistant Scouting Director

As 2022 comes to a close and we move into 2023 we want to take a look back at the top moments from the entire year covered by Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma.  We aim to provide the most comprehensive coverage of high school baseball in the State from our events as well as covering as many high school games as possible.  2022 was a banner year in Oklahoma with multiple players and programs making big jumps, picking up big hits, strong performances on the mound, and some crazy walk-off wins.  Be sure to follow along in 2023 as we aim to grow our coverage and be the true one-stop shop for all things Oklahoma High School baseball.

After dropping their first chance to punch their ticket to the State Tournament losing the first game of their double header, Parker Coil stepped up and delivered his only hit of the game to drive in a run sending the Bulldogs to the State Tournament.  In what was a back and forth game the whole way including Choctaw scoring two in the top of the 7th, it was this clutch hit the other way that pulled in the winning run and dogpile for Edmond Memorial.  Coil is now on campus at the University of Arkansas where he is working to grab some innings in the future for the Razorbacks.

A 6-foot-2, 165-pound lean and projectable frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from a simple up tempo delivery with rhythm that he repeats well. Arm action is long, clean, and loose in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot with little effort. Fastball shows some downhill tilt with advanced command at 77-83 mph. Curveball shows some late depth with tight spin at 71-72 mph with advanced command. Changeup is throw with full arm speed showing heavy and late fade at 73-75, mostly stikes.

12-16-18
A physically advanced and projectable 6-foot-1, 160-pound frame with long limbs and plenty of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a high leg kick before driving towards the dish and finishing in line. Arm action is long and low in the back with a quick change of direction at the bottom of the arm stroke before coming through a near over the top slot. Fastball has downhill action at 75-77 mph with occasional cut, controlled around the zone. Curveball has advanced spin and depth with 1/7 shape, some strikes. Changeup is a solid third pitch with some fade and some strikes at 70-71 mph.
