PBR Player of the Week: Austin Bentlage from Union HS

Austin Bentlage had a career day last week, striking out twenty batters en route to a 5-3 win over New Haven. Bentlage struck out the first two batters of the game, walked the third batter, then proceeded to strike out the next eighteen batters in a row. The eighteeen consecutive batters set a MSHSAA record that will be hard to break. The previous record was fifteen consecutive strikeouts set back in 2007

Bentlage finished the game with a no hitter, twenty strikeouts and one walk

"This game is a great thing for Austin.  He had a rough year last year with some personal struggles and an arm injury.  He started this year out rusty but he had been getting better and better each start.  Against New Haven he had it all going for him.  It's great to see a kid have something wonderful happen for him when he truly deserves it.  I'm very proud of and happy for Austin," said Union head Coach Ryan Bailey on his pitcher's record setting game.
