By Dylan Hefflinger

BEDFORD-  On an blistering cold day Toledo St. Johns traveled to Bedford, Michigan and kick the host Mules (2011 state runner uJesse Adamsp) 14-7, 13-5 in a doubleheader.

A Boston College commit, Jesse Adams was on the mound for the Titans and the senior was in the 80s, mainly around 85, topping out at 88 mph. The 5-11, 160-pound Adams went 4 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs, 4 earned, while striking out 6. Adams, who picked up his 3rd win was a little wild as he walked 4 batters and hit another 2 on a day that even featured a few snowflakes.

Bedford went with Sienna Heights recruit, senior Justin McPherson, whose velocity sat in the low-80s in his 4 innings on the hill. The right-hander allowed 7 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts.

With the game knotted at 3 in the third,  University of Toledo recruit Nate Pearson walked, junior Jimmy Scott singled and senior Jeff Sheehy had a 2-run double. Sophomore Nolan Silberhorn, a 6-4, 191-pounder, blasted the ball off the wall in deep left for a RBI double.

Bedford narrowed the gap to 7-6 by scoring 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth.

But the Titans added 4  runs in the sixth. After a hit-by-pitch, Nate Pearson blasted a long drive to right that got held up in the wind but was still able to get over outfielder Lucas Mayo for a double. Scott then hit a sac fly to score Allen. Joe Robie and Corey Tipton followed with back-to-back singles to score Pearson and Robie.

St. Johns added 3 insurance runs in the 7th as Allen was hit by pitch again, stole second and ended up on third after an errant throw by the Bedford catcher. Pearson singled to score Allen. Robie and Tipton walked before junior pinch hitter Alex Turner singled to knock in two as St. John's won game one 14-7.

In game two, Bedford, whose record fell to 8-3, got on top 4-0 in the second by scoring 4 unearned runs off of Robie, St. John's starter Joe. The Titans rallied to score 1 in each of the next four innings before exploding for 7 runs in the 6th.

Silberhorn continued his hot day at the plate with a home run in the 7th to put the game away at 13-5, moving St. John's to 4-2 on the season.

Freshman T.J. Lake had 3 singles to lead the 14-hit attack for the Titans. Matt Henderson picked up the win for St. Johns, which hosts Toledo Start on Tuesday.

Jackson Lamb, a 6-6 junior being heavily recruited in both baseball and basketball, saw his first action of the season after suffering an ankle injury in basketball, and went 0-for-4 in the opener before sitting out game two.
