CINCINNATI, OHIO- Centerville (11-1) travelled to Cincinnati to face St. Xavier (5-7) on Saturday expecting to play a single game but instead stayed and played a double header taking both games with scores of 11-1 and 3-0.

In the first game, Centerville senior pitcher Derek Hendrixson (Heidelberg recruit) notched his second victory of the season allowing just one run while scattering five hits over six innings. Hendrixson displayed an effective fastball topping out at 83 mph and mixed in a nice downward tilting curve ball that stymied St. X hitters all day.

St. Xavier countered with senior pitcher CJ Bowman, who struggled with his control as he walked four and hit one. In the process, he managed to strike out five Elks’ batters. Bowman, who allowed ten runs, but only six of them earned, departed in the fifth inning with the bases loaded giving way to junior pitcher Anthony Durso. Neither St. Xavier pitcher got any help from their defense, which misplayed several balls that contributed to big innings for the visiting squad.

The Centerville Elks offense displayed versatility in their ability score runs. Through a combination of bunting, aggressive baserunning, and big hits from players up and down the lineup, Centerville’s offense kept continual pressure on the St. X defense.

Centerville senior Nick Bertram (Miami recruit) was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Junior designated hitter Alex Rado reached base all three plate appearances while adding 3 RBIs. Sophomore infielder Joey Weingartner went 2 for 4 with a RBI.

Centerville (11-1) visits Springfield (5-10) on Monday while St. Xavier hosts Purcell Marian (3-9) on Monday in a divisional contest.
