PBR Spotlight Game: Toronto Mets 17u vs. Ontario Blue Jays 17u

LEASIDE - On a beautiful Wednesday night at the old Talbot Park on Bayview and Eglinton, the Toronto Mets 17u were home to take on the Ontario Blue Jays 17u in PBLO action.

Through the first four innings, it looked to be a tight affair until the final out but three consecutive innings were OBJ scored was able to be the difference in a 13-5 final in their favour.

Bryson Smith started on the mound for OBJ and ended up going 4.1 giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, 3 of the earned with 3 strikeouts while not issuing a free pass. Smith was able to throw strikes and compete while showing good run on his fastball and changeup.

Big, strong first baseman Matt Carscadden showed his plate discipline as he ended up 1-2 with a double and 3 walks while leading the way with 4 runs scored.

Leadoff hitter Sean McVeigh was 3-5 with a double and 2 runs scored while Ben Miller had himself a day going 3-4, 3 runs, and 4 RBIs.

2016 grad Kyle Symington came in to close out the last three innings and was successful in doing so putting up three zero’s. Symington attacked with his fastball and finished guys off with a solid breaking ball punching out 3 batters and allowing 3 hits during his outing.

The Mets were able to get out to an early lead with RBI’s from Luke Turino and Mark Bernardi, but walks seemed to be the dagger as the Mets walked a total of 10 batters, with 7 of those coming in to score, despite out hitting the Jays 12-11.

Trent Rosza started for the Mets and went four innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

+Blue Jays second baseman William D’Acosta was 2-4 with 2 RBIs

+OBJ Sean McVeigh was 3-5 with 2 R, and 2 stolen bases
