PBR/NCBCA Coaches Poll: April 10, 2018

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Prep Baseball Report is proud to organize and run the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association (NCBCA) team rankings again in 2018.  PBR has selected over 70 high school coaches, representing each of the four NCHSAA classifications.  The coaches also represent the eight regions across North Carolina.

Every other week throughout the 2018 season, PBR will put together information and ask the coaches on the 2018 poll to vote for their top 10 teams in the 4 classifications.  PBR takes the individual coach rankings to create the PBR/NCBCA Team Rankings.  The poll will be released every other Tuesday throughout the 2018 season.

Below are the Team Rankings from the PBR/NCBCA Poll for April 10, 2018.

Class 1A Rankings
The newest ranking see Murphy HS solidfy itself as the front-runner for the state title in the eyes of coaches from across the state.  The only unanimous No. 1 selection in any poll, the Bulldogs finished last week at 13-0, outscoring opponents 168-21.
North Stanly remains at No. 2 while East Surry jumps to No. 3.  The top of the 1A level has several strong teams that are off to great starts as seen in the Top 10 and teams receiving votes.  Eleven of these teams get to the off-way point with two losses or less.

Class 2A Rankings
North Davidson HS makes its way to the No. 1 spot in the 2A ranking for the first time, riding a 13-0 record.  Several teams can make a claim to be the favorite as we near the state playoffs, with Ledford HS and Randleman HS each having been ranked No. 1.  Whiteville HS and South Granville HS have each competed for state titles in recent years.
At the half way point the state playoffs look to be very exciting with 16 schools currently winning better than 80% of their games in 2018.

Class 3A Rankings
For the 3rd time this year, we have a new No. 1 in the 3A poll with New Hanover taking the top spot.  For the 2nd time in the last two polls, the previous No. 1 falls to No. 8 as JH Rose hit a road bump in the past couple of weeks as they continue to play good competition.
The fluctuation in the 3A poll spells out that there are a lot of good teams at this level.  As good as the first half of the season has been, the jury is still out as to what we will see in the 2nd half and into the state playoffs.

Class 4A Rankings
No changes in the top two spots of the 4A poll.  Myers Park has continued to play well and moves to No. 3. Green Hope HS, coming off a run in USA Baseball's NHSI to the championship game moves to No. 8.
Again, a running theme in each of the classifications, there is not a ton of separation between the top 10 and those receiving votes.  With the current setup in the NC State playoffs any of these teams may be able to make a run if they get hot at the right time.
