This weekend, the PBR CA staff is hosting the PBRT California Summer Championships in Irvine, CA. The tournament kicked off yesterday and features over 30 teams with plenty of talent from a variety of grad classes throughout the state. Read below for notes on some of the top performers from Day One of the event.

Quick hits

James Tronstein SS / OF / Harvard-Westlake, CA / 2026

Stanford commit and a 2022 Future Games alum. Tronstein is currently slotted within the top-25 prospects in the nation’s soon-to-be sophomore class. He is a lean and athletic 5-foot-11, 160-pounds with plenty of room for continued physical maturity. His athleticism is more than apparent in the box, as his loose and quick hands generate effortless bat speed. Despite his wiry frame, he has sneaky power that he has shown during gameplay in the past. Tronstein shined on Thursday morning, recording a multi-hit performance, including a bases-clearing triple to help power his club to victory.

Tyler Walton RHP / OF / Crespi Carmelite, CA / 2025

Lean and lanky build at 6-foot-4, 165-pounds with ample room to add mass. Walton got to toe-the-rubber on Thursday and provided our staff with an upside look. He showed the ability to land a three-pitch-mix for strikes. He has a heavy upper-80s fastball that peaked at 89 mph on his firmest bullet yesterday. Walton mixed in a wipeout slider and showed above average feel for his changeup. He will be representing California at the 2023 PBR Future Games next week.

Justin Lopez 2B / SS / Orange Lutheran , CA / 2026

Lopez made for an athletic look on Thursday, impacting the game in a variety of facets. Standing at a compact 5-foot-9, 150-pounds, he plays much bigger than his size. At the plate, he recorded multiple hits, including a two-run double that helped his squad secure the win. Lopez also caused trouble on the basepaths, stealing a pair of bags. He will be in Georgia next week for the 2023 PBR Future Games.

Warren Gravely C / RHP / Valley Christian, CA / 2026

Lean and athletic build at 6-foot, 180-pounds with room for physical projection. Gravely is currently one of the top uncommitted players in the state’s 2026 class, and sits within the top-300 in the national rankings. He has shown legitimate two-way capabilities in front of our staff in the past, and he showed well in both facets yesterday. He provided a brief but impressive look, topping out at 88 mph in his one inning of work. He has an above average changeup that he uses to miss barrels, and showed an improved slider. Gravely also found the barrel for a go-ahead, bases-clearing double late in the game to give his club the lead for good. A two-way name-to-know in the 2026 class.

Brandon Garcia RHP / La Serna, CA / 2024

Garcia has an XL frame at 6-foot-2, 215-pounds with plenty of strength. Despite his size, he moves well down the mound with a fluid delivery. He ran the fastball up to 87 mph and showed feel to land a curveball for strikes. He located his pitches well, keeping opposing batters guessing. He also provided offensive production in the victory.

Caden Fenger RHP / SS / Juan Diego, UT / 2024

Fenger hosts a highly projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds. Currently uncommitted and a top-50 player in Utah’s incoming senior class. He used a heavy dose of low-to-mid 80s fastballs to induce plenty of weak contact. At the Top Prospect Games earlier this month, his fastball peaked at a high of 86.4 mph with a spin rate greater than 2,400 rpm. Fenger also mixed in a mid-70s breaking ball to keep hitters off-balanced.

Chase Whitley CF / Shadow Ridge, AZ / 2024

The 2022 Future Games alum is currently a top-20 prospect in Arizona’s rising senior class and is the top uncommitted outfielder in the state. He stands at a lean and athletic 6-foot, 180-pounds. He’s a 6.61 runner with well above average speed that is evident in the outfielder and on the basepaths. His loose and athletic stroke has produced impressive swing metrics at past events, and he put that on full display on Thursday. Whitley found the barrel for a loud home run to extend the lead for his club.

Jack McWilliams LHP / OF / Cathedral Catholic, CA / 2024

San Diego commit, currently ranked within the top-125 in California’s soon-to-be senior class. McWilliams stands out with his athletic 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame that projects well. While he has shown two-way capabilities in the past, it was his bat that made the most noise during gameplay yesterday. He came up to bat late in the game, and barreled a two-strike, go-ahead triple to the opposite-field gap to give his team the lead for good.
