With the 2019 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state. Starting in January, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2019 Spring Team Preview: Paint Valley Bearcats

Team Name: Paint Valley Bearcats
Head Coach: Shayne Combs
Division: III
2018 Record: 15-12
Conference Record: Scioto Valley Conference, 5-9 (5th)
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 9/5

2019 Team Strengths:

  • Experience
  • Pitching (if healthy)
  • Deep offensive lineup (if healthy)

Coach Outlook: "We have a lot coming back from a 15-win season. We are now three years removed from back-to-back district titles, so we hope to take another step forward this season. Our biggest issue at this point would be some concerning off-season injuries that we need to get past before spring."

PBR Outlook: Coach Combs and the Bearcats have basically it's whole team back from a 15-win campaign from a year ago and looks to make a long run in 2019.

Top Returning Players:

  • Macky McDonald, C/OF, SR - All-Ohio last year, going to play college by at Shawnee State
  • Cruz McFadden, P/INF, JR - first-team all SVC and district last year
  • Lane Mettler, P/INF, JR - all-league and district selection
  • Bryce Newland, INF, JR

Top Underclassmen:

  • Brock Blanton (SO) should have a breakout year on the mound and at the plate - very talented
